{"id":287429,"date":"2017-12-07T19:16:08","date_gmt":"2017-12-08T02:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=287429"},"modified":"2017-12-07T19:16:08","modified_gmt":"2017-12-08T02:16:08","slug":"navy-continues-streak-tops-army-in-annual-dual-meet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/navy-continues-streak-tops-army-in-annual-dual-meet\/","title":{"rendered":"Navy Continues Win Streak by Topping Army in Annual Dual Meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Jason Tillotson.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>During this time of year, most collegiate teams have wrapped up their mid-season invitational meets while the annual Army-Navy meet got underway today in Annapolis, Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>This year the meet was hosted at the U.S. Naval Academy and featured NBC\u2019s Rowdy Gaines <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/rowdy-gaines-to-serve-as-analyst-for-army-navy-swim-meet\/\" target=\"_blank\">on the mic as live commentator<\/a>. Coming into the meet both Navy squads are 7-0 while Army came in 2-1. The Navy women\u2019s team has defeated Army each time they\u2019ve competed head to head for the last 28 years. The Navy men have done the same for the past 26 seasons.<\/p>\n<p>This year Navy won both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s meet. The men were able to topple Army 209.5-90.5 while the women bested Army 223-77.<\/p>\n<p>The Navy women won all 16 total events in tonight\u2019s competition while taking many 1-2-3 sweep finishes as well. The Navy men won 13 out of 16 total races, including the diving events.<\/p>\n<p>The Navy women had some impressive performances tonight including in the 1,000 freestyle with <strong>Jenny Smith<\/strong> posting the only sub-10:00 time in 9:58.90. Navy\u2019s <strong>Delaney Walz<\/strong> dipped under the two-minute mark in the 200 butterfly as she turned in a 1:58.89. Walz went on to lead a Navy sweep of the 100 butterfly event with her time of 54.75. <strong>Kelly Harrington<\/strong> and <strong>Lauren Greenberg<\/strong> tied for second in 55.57.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s meet saw some swift times as well with the Army\u2019s <strong>Johnny Ellery<\/strong> posting a 1:45.15 in the 200 butterfly, which placed him about a second and a half ahead of Navy\u2019s <strong>Micah Oh<\/strong>, who swam a 1:46.81. Ellery also picked up a win in the 100 distance with his time of 47.91.
