Grothe&#8217;s time lowered the American Record by over four seconds.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Grothe&#8217;s American Record, new Championship records were posted by\u00a0<strong>Cody Miller, Mallory Comerford<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Nathan Adrian<\/strong>, while\u00a0<strong>Reece Whitley<\/strong> lowered the 17-18 NAG record in the 200 yard breast.<\/p>\n<p>Read the full report below!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Schedule of Events:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 1650 Free (Fastest heat)<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 1650 Free (Fastest heat)<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 200 Back<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 200 Back<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 100 Free<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 100 Free<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 200 Breast<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 200 Breast<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 200 Fly<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 200 Fly<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 400 Free Relay<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 400 Free Relay<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 1650 Free<\/h3>\n<p>It was a battle till the very finish in the finals of the women&#8217;s 1650 freestyle. 17-year-old\u00a0<strong>Erica Sullivan<\/strong> jumped to an early lead, holding off a charging\u00a0<strong>Ashley Neidigh<\/strong> for much of the race, however Neidigh stormed past Sullivan in the final 200 yards to claim victory with a time of 15:38.35. Sullivan settled for second with a 15:40.42.<\/p>\n<p>Neidigh&#8217;s time moves her to ninth all-time in the event, while Sullivan&#8217;s time earns her the sixth all-time ranking in the 17-18 age group behind\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>,<strong> Katie Hoff, Kate Ziegler, Janet Evans,<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Cierra Runge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Picking up the bronze medal was\u00a0<strong>Madelyn Donohoe<\/strong> with a time of 16:01.60. Two nights after posting the first sub 4:08 swim in the 500 free, Grothe was back and performing his best Ledecky impression in the 1650 free. Grothe jumped to an early start and never looked back, continuing to propel himself forward away from the competition and past the existing American Record of 14:22.41. At one point in the race, Grothe was an astonishing full six seconds beneath the American Record mark. He went on to finish the race with a time of 14:18.25, establishing new American, U.S. Open, and Championship records in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Holding steady at second throughout the race was\u00a0<strong>Mitch D&#8217;Arrigo<\/strong>. D&#8217;Arrigo, a constant in the distance scene, grabbed the silver medal with a time of 14:43.87. Galyer led throughout the entirety of the race, but Alexander was never far behind. Splitting no more than .60 seconds throughout all four 50s. In this morning&#8217;s prelims Pebley led the way, but in finals it was Murphy who claimed the National Championship final. Comerford went up against a field of all-star sprinters in Columbus, including former collegiate teammate\u00a0<strong>Kelsi Worrell<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Olivia Smoliga<\/strong>, and former Arizona Wildcat\u00a0<strong>Margo Geer.<\/strong> Comerford posted the only sub-47 second swim, stopping the clock at a time of 46.70. Her time downs the decade-old championship record of 46.85, set by\u00a0<strong>Natalie Coughlin<\/strong> in 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Worrell collected the silver medal with a time of 47.48, just out-touching Geer and her time of 47.50.
