MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa, Nov. 8. ONE individual and two relay state records fell during the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union State Championships Nov. 4-5. The meet was held in short course yards.<\/p>\n
Emma Sougstad, a junior at Mason City, erased the 200 IM record set by Danielle Harris in 2008 of 2:04.24 with her 2:03.14. Emma also captured the 100 fly in a tight battle with Decorah senior Allison Orvis, 56.42-56.49.<\/p>\n
Ames High School swimmers combined to lower the two relay records. The 200 medley quartet of senior Maddie Bro, sophomore Sydney Sorenson, senior Lauren Rosser and junior Taylor Flummerfelt put together a 1:46.16, bettering the team’s 2010 mark of 1:46.67. The 400 free team of Flummerfelt, senior Rachel Shriver, sophomore Hannah Newell and Bro took out West Des Moines’ 2005 effort of 3:32.69 with their 3:31.65.<\/p>\n
Flummerfelt captured both sprint free events available with her 23.98 in the 50 free and 51.97 in the 100 free. Flummerfelt’s teammate, Bro, notched a win in the 100 back with her 56.62. And freshman Maggie James and senior Sarah Kemp went 1-2 in the diving event with scores of 447.80 and 443.10, respectively.<\/p>\n
West Des Moines Dowling sophomore McKenna Lynch picked up wins in notched a win in the 100 back (56.62). Des Moines Lincoln sophomore Brittany Purscell was tops in the 100 breast with her 1:05.55. <\/p>\n
Linn-Mar’s team of senior Emilie Berg, freshman Lizzie Adams, junior Lauren Dalecky and senior Alex Dunn grabbed the 200 free relay title in 1:38.60, 5-hundredths ahead of West Des Moines Valley’s squad of senior Mackenzie DiBlasi, freshman Lauren Conte, sophomore Allison Moore and freshman Moriah Moore.<\/p>\n
Ames captured the team title with 336 points. West Des Moines Valley finished in second with 246 points, with Cedar Falls taking third (177) and Dowling Catholic in fourth (152). Pleasant Valley grabbed the fifth spot from Iowa City West, 141-138.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
