PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania, November 5. THE George Washington women's swimming team posted 11 first-place finishes in 14 events en route to a 164-98 victory over Drexel at Drexel Pool in Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
Sophomore Caroline Myers and freshman Janica Lee led the Colonials with a combined seven victories to lead the Buff and Blue's first dual meet victory of the 2011-12 season. Lee broke the Drexel Pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.03, in addition to swimming the second leg of the record-breaking 200-yard medley relay.<\/p>\n
To open the meet, Lee, sophomore Lindsay Moore, freshman Morgan Zebley and sophomore Sydney Saunders swam a 200-yard medley relay time of 1:49.79 to tie for first place in the event and set a new Drexel Pool record.<\/p>\n
Lee also won the 200-yard freestyle with time of 1:56.78, followed by freshman Melissa Fernandez in second in 1:57.27. Her fourth top finish came in the 200-yard individual medley when she clocked in at 2:11.65.<\/p>\n
Myers glided to an easy win in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:32.42, touching the wall 12 seconds ahead of Drexel's second-place finisher. Myers also earned top honors in the 200-yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:09.72. Her winning 500-yard freestyle time of 5:10.38 was a full seven seconds ahead of Drexel's second-place finisher.<\/p>\n
Moore and Zebley took home first and second, respectively, in the 100-yard backstroke. Moore posted a time of 1:00.72, followed close behind by Zebley with a time of 1:00.76.
\nGW swept the top-three spots of the 100-yard freestyle, led by sophomore Sydney Saunders with a time of 54.76. Sloan Saunders clocked in at 54.87 for second place, and Fernandez finished in 54.88 for third place.<\/p>\n
The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Sloan Saunders, Zebley, Fernandez and Sydney Saunders picked up first place with a time of 3:36.51.<\/p>\n
GW hosts its first home dual meet of the 2011-12 season on Saturday, Nov. 12 with a 1 p.m. meet with Towson in Smith Center Pool.<\/p>\n
