ROCHESTER, Michigan, November 5. VANESSZA Balogh won two individual events and Matyas Kereszteswon one individual event and two relays as the Oakland men’s and women’s swimmingand diving teams beat Wayne State at the OU Aquatic Center Saturday afternoon. The men won with a score of 133-85and thewomen won with a score of 149-88.<\/p>\n
“Collectively weare looking pretty good right now as we are healthy and we have differentpeople stepping up each week,” said head coach Pete Hovland. “We swam a different format today and it wasgood to get some different events under our belt before the championship. There is always room to improve and we aregoing to continue to try to make progress with a big meet next weekend.”<\/p>\n
Balogh won the 1,650-yardfreestyle and the 400 individual medley with times of 16:52.08 and 4:29.31, respectively. The other multiple-event winners were MarcellaBarretta winning the 1- and 3- meter diving events with final scores of 265.50and 268.12, respectively, and Johanna Gustafsson winning the 50 free andthe 100 breast with times of 24.67 and 1:06.02, respectively.<\/p>\n
Other event winnersincluded Jill Carps in the 100 free (53.67), Kyra Rietveld in the100 backstroke (59.90) and Sandra Czerska in the 500 free (5:06.29).<\/p>\n
Keresztes won the 50free with a time of 21.29 and was a part of the winning 200 medley relay with TobiasHansen, Scott Yarbrough and Alex Aceino with a time of 1:33.75and the winning 200 free relay with Zach Johnson, Ben Vavra and Amrel Sayed with a time of 1:25.08.<\/p>\n
Oakland had sixindividual winners including el Sayed in the 1,650 free (15:54.32), JoeRodgers in the 400 IM (4:05.90), Aceino in the 100 butterfly (50.10), TimMontague in the 500 free (4:42.06) and Yarbrough in the 100 breast (57.89). Jason Voight won both diving eventsunopposed finishing with a final score of 212.40 in the one-meter and 211.65 inthe three-meter. <\/p>\n
The Oakland swimmingand diving team will be back in the pool next weekend as they will take onEastern Michigan at Jones Natatorium in Ypsilanti, Mich. The meet will begin at 1 p.m. with liveresults available on the swimming and diving schedule page at OUGrizzlies.com.<\/p>\n
