﻿{"id":285892,"date":"2017-11-28T07:14:36","date_gmt":"2017-11-28T14:14:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=285892"},"modified":"2017-11-28T07:15:52","modified_gmt":"2017-11-28T14:15:52","slug":"over-150-athletes-set-for-2017-intellectual-impairment-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/over-150-athletes-set-for-2017-intellectual-impairment-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"20 Countries Set for 2017 INAS Intellectual Impairment Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 150 athletes from 20 countries are ready for the 2017 International Federation for Intellectual Impairment Sport (INAS) Swimming Championships which get underway\u00a0in Aguascalientes, Mexico,\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_799250104\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Wednesday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0(<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_799250105\"><span class=\"aQJ\">29\u00a0November<\/span><\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>The competition will be the first INAS Swimming Championships to be held in the Americas. It will also see the debut of trial eligibility groups for Down syndrome and autism.<\/p>\n<p>In the existing S14 classification a star-studded line-up features returning champions, medallists and Paralympians.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil\u2019s <strong>Felipe Caltran Vila Real<\/strong> is one of the headline acts.<\/p>\n<p>Vila Real is the defending champion from the 2015 INAS Global Games, which also act as the World Championships, in the men\u2019s 200 butterfly. He is also a silver medallist in the 400m individual medley.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI expect it to be a Championship full of good memories and achievements for me,\u201d he said. \u201cI expect a good competition because the athletes there are really determined.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also returning as a triple world champion is Chinese Taipei\u2019s <strong>Jo Lin Tu<\/strong> in the women\u2019s S14. Tu grabbed gold in the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Two Australians will be Tu\u2019s main rivals \u2013 <strong>Nikesha Harding<\/strong> and <strong>Jade Lucy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Harding has her eye on the defence of her 50m breaststroke gold as well as good results in other events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I became the 50m breaststroke champion at the Global Games it was my greatest moment!\u201d Harding said. \u201cI had specifically prepared for this event. I will certainly fight to retain my title in Mexico but there is an exceptional field of swimmers to beat. I have specialised in butterfly and I aim for fantastic results in the 50m, 100m and 200m fly. These are my pet events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel strong and ready to take on the world\u2019s best in Mexico. I earned the nickname \u2018The Machine\u2019 in Ecuador and I will make my country proud.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jade Lucy is aiming to retain her 400m and 800m freestyle titles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully I can repeat my performance from the Global Games in 2015,\u201d Lucy\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe 400 free is one of my favourite events.
