SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, October 29. THE Utah women's swimming and diving team was all smiles as it recorded its first-ever Pac-12 Conference win at Ute Natatorium earlier today. The Utes defeated the Cougars 147 points to 115.<\/p>\n
"It was a really fun meet and I'm really excited about how well we did. It was fun to see new kids swimming in different events," Utah head coach Greg Winslow said. "I was really impressed with Hannah Caron, Traycie Swartz and Sami Zuch in winning several events and Nicole Ligeza winning the 200 breast. We were just tough overall."<\/p>\n
Caron brought in three individual wins for the Utes, including the 200 free (1:52.94), the 100 fly (56.96) and the 200 IM (2:06.90). She also contributed to the winning 200 medley relay (1:44.93) along with teammates Swartz, Ligeza and Zuch.<\/p>\n
Two more Ute wins came from Zuch who touched in top times in the 100 breast (1:04.22) and the 500 free (5:06.03). Zuch collaborated with Ligeza, Chardonnay Biter-Mundt and Madeline Jamora to take the top spot in the 400 free relay. <\/p>\n
Swartz had a strong meet, finishing first in the 100 back (57.03) and the 100 free (51.78).<\/p>\n
Excitement surrounded Leighanne Oliver as she placed first in the 1000 free (10:44.56) earning her first collegiate win. <\/p>\n
"It was so exciting. Just getting out of the pool and seeing all my teammates and how supportive they were. It was awesome," Oliver said.<\/p>\n
Other top performances came from an array of Utes.<\/p>\n
Ligeza picked up the win in the 200 breast (2:25.90) and placed third in both the 100 breast (1:06.35) and the 200 IM while Melissa Paakh was runner-up in the 200 fly (2:12.25).<\/p>\n
In the 200 back, Danielle Caldwell came in second (2:06.69) with Sarah Cox close behind in third (2:07.82). <\/p>\n
Jamora finished third in the 50 free (25.09) while Valerie McMullan grabbed a third place in the 100 free (53.84). Kayla Buck also logged a third place finish in the 200 breast (2:29.81). <\/p>\n
Next Saturday, the Utah men and women will compete against UNLV at Ute Natatorium at 12 p.m.<\/p>\n
