ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico, October 29. THE University of Wyoming Cowgirl swimming and diving team defeated the New Mexico Lobos, 190-110, on Saturday morning in Albuquerque, N.M. The Cowgirls won 12 of 16 events and had four multiple event winners.<\/p>\n
"I thought we had a good day today," Wyoming head coach Tom Johnson said. "We put some people in some off events and they performed well."<\/p>\n
The Cowgirls started the meet off right with a come from behind victory in the 200 medley relay. UW's Jordan Denny, Morgan Hartigan, Claudia Carlson and Kelsey Conci came from behind on the final leg of the race to defeat the Lobos with a time of 1:45.28.<\/p>\n
"Kelsey's swim in the 200 medley relay was just awesome," Johnson said. "We were behind and she ran the New Mexico girl down and just touched her out. She just dominated in every event she swam today."<\/p>\n
After the victory in the 200 medley relay the Cowgirls never looked back. Winning multiple events for UW were Conci, Denny, Paige Fischer and Caroline Wells. Conci won the 50 and the 100 freestyle with times of 23.44 and 51.73, respectively. Fischer picked up wins for the Cowgirls in the 500 and 1000 freestyle. She touched the wall first in the 500 free with a time of 5:08.93 and won the 1000 with a time of 10:35.99. Johnson was especially pleased with the performance of Denny who won both the 100 and 200 backstroke with times of 57.75 and 2:05.54, respectively. Wells tied for first with her teammate Kasey Robinson in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:55.98 and she won the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.70.<\/p>\n
Also picking up wins for UW was Lauren Hewson in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.50 and Hartigan in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:24.05.
\nCowgirls Conci, Hartigan, Fischer and Denny closed out the meet with a victory in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 1:43.60.<\/p>\n
In today's diving the Cowgirls had some trouble with a very talented New Mexico diving squad. On the 1-meter springboard Sasha Andrie took second place with a mark of 236.93. Carolyn Wallace took fourth place on the 1-meter with a score of 226.65. Wallace was the Cowgirls highest on the 3-meter placing fourth with a score of 235.13.<\/p>\n
"I thought we had a solid team effort today, but we still have a lot we need to work on," Johnson added.<\/p>\n
Next up for UW swimming and diving will be a trip to Dallas, Texas on Saturday, Nov. 4. The Cowgirls will swim against SMU and North Texas while the Cowboys will dual SMU.<\/p>\n
