BOWLING GREEN, Ohio, October 28. OHIO Swimming and Diving began its Mid-American Conference title defense in fine form on Friday, picking up a 168-121 dual-meet victory over the Bowling Green Falcons. The Bobcats won the first five events of the day, never looking back en route to picking up their first win of the season.<\/p>\n
It was an impressive day for Ohio (1-0, 1-0 MAC) from a historical perspective as well, with results from three of the day's events cracking some of the top ten marks in program history. Tori Bagan (Roanoke, Ind.), Morgan Srail (Avon Lake, Ohio) and Haleigh Bartlett (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) had a part in re-writing the record books on Friday, setting top-ten marks in the 100 yard breaststroke, one meter diving and three meter diving events, respectively.<\/p>\n
"Our goal is always to improve from one competition to the next," said Head Coach Greg Werner. "The only competition we could compare it with at this point is the Intra-Squad, and we were dramatically better across the board than we were two weeks ago."<\/p>\n
The Bobcats took control of the meet right from the start, earning the top spots in the first five events. A team of Rachel Stearns (Minnetonka, Minn.), Bagan, Amanda Cecere (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Abby Corcoran (Tucson, Ariz.) earned first in the 200 yard medley relay, swimming a 1:45.77. This was followed up by a 1000 yard freestyle victory by Laurin Williams (Shoreline, Wash.), a 200 yard freestyle win by Emma Michaels (Findlay, Ohio), a 100 yard backstroke victory from Stearns and a 100 yard breaststroke win by Bagan.<\/p>\n
Bagan's 100 yard breaststroke time of 1:03.93 ranks fifth all-time in program history. Srail's one meter diving score of 261.30 ranks tenth and Bartlett's three meter diving score of 270.85 earned the ninth spot in Bobcat history.<\/p>\n
"It's good to come out on top with that team score," said Werner. "Combining that with having a lot of great performances makes me very, very happy."<\/p>\n
The Bobcats will next be in action on Saturday, Oct. 29 when they swim at Eastern Michigan. First event is set for 1 p.m.<\/p>\n
