A number of fast swims highlighted the second day of prelims of the Singapore stop of the 2017 FINA World Cup.\u00a0Regan Smith\u00a0<\/strong>of the United States led by finishing first in the women’s 100 backstroke by over a second. Other highlights included multiple top eight finishes from\u00a0Vladimir Morozov<\/strong>,\u00a0Alex Walsh<\/strong>, and\u00a0Kirill Prigoda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Freestyle<\/h1>\n

Russia’s\u00a0Vladimir Morozov led the first prelims event of the morning, touching first in the men’s 100 freestyle in a time of 47.65. He was followed by South Africa’s\u00a0Chad Le Clos<\/strong> for second in 47.75.\u00a0Damian Wierling\u00a0<\/strong>of Germany was third in 47.86.<\/p>\n

Fourth place went to\u00a0Cameron McEvoy\u00a0<\/strong>of Australia in 48.01. France’s\u00a0Clement Mignon<\/strong> placed fifth in 48.05, while\u00a0Daniel Hunter\u00a0<\/strong>of New Zealand was sixth in 48.14.<\/p>\n

Ukraine’s\u00a0Andrii Govorov<\/strong> came in seventh in 48.20.\u00a0Kyle Stolk<\/strong> of the Netherlands finished eighth in 48.34.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 Breaststroke<\/h1>\n

Alia Atkinson<\/strong> of Jamaica led the women’s 50 breaststroke preliminaries in 30.44. Australia’s\u00a0Emily Seebohm<\/strong> touched second in 30.63.<\/p>\n

Denmark’s\u00a0Rikke Pedersen<\/strong> and Singapore’s\u00a0Roanne Ho<\/strong> tied for third place in a time of 30.91. China’s\u00a0Jingyao Yu<\/strong> placed fifth in 31.09.<\/p>\n

Alex Walsh\u00a0<\/strong>of the United States came in sixth in 31.36, just ahead of Taipei’s\u00a0Pei Wun Lin<\/strong>, who was seventh in 31.40. China’s\u00a0Jinglin Shi<\/strong> rounded out the top eight for tonight’s final in 31.43.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 Breaststroke<\/h1>\n

Kirill Prigoda<\/strong> of Russia had the top time in the men’s 200 breaststroke in 2:06.87. Japan’s\u00a0Daiya Seto<\/strong> followed in second with a time of 2:07.19.\u00a0Ilya Shymanovich<\/strong> of Belarus rounded out the top three qualifiers in 2:07.43.<\/p>\n

Australia’s\u00a0Matthew Wilson\u00a0<\/strong>picked up fourth place in 2:07.65. American\u00a0Daniel Roy<\/strong> finished fifth in 2:08.11.\u00a0Man Hou Chao<\/strong> of Macau was sixth in 2:08.93.<\/p>\n

Seventh place went to Australian\u00a0George James Harley<\/strong> in 2:08.97.\u00a0Arno Kamminga<\/strong> of the Netherlands picked up eighth in 2:09.19.<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 IM<\/h1>\n

Only seven swimmers competed in this morning’s heats of the women’s 400 IM.\u00a0Ching Hwee Gan<\/strong> of Singapore led with a time of 4:47.96. Australia’s\u00a0Jessie Mary Quinn<\/strong> followed in 4:53.06. 12 year old\u00a0Ashley Lim<\/strong> of Singapore placed third in a time of 5:00.58.<\/p>\n

The remaining swimmers were all from Singapore.\u00a0Sarah Yip<\/strong> was fourth in 5:08.75, while Li Tong Madeline Lye<\/strong> finished fifth in 5:09.62.<\/p>\n

Charmaine Lee<\/strong> came in sixth in 5:13.55. Seventh went to\u00a0Jing Xuan Liau Claresa<\/strong> in 5:13.65.<\/p>\n

Men’s 50 Backstroke<\/h1>\n

The men’s 50 backstroke prelims went to China’s\u00a0Jiayu Xu<\/strong> in 23.48.\u00a0Pavel Sankovich<\/strong> of Belarus placed second in 23.62. Germany’s\u00a0Christian Diener<\/strong> was third in 23.92.<\/p>\n

Israel’s\u00a0Yakov Yan Toumarkin<\/strong> and\u00a0Brazil’s\u00a0Nelson Silva Junior<\/strong> tied for fourth place in 23.94.<\/p>\n

Russia’s Morozov took sixth in 24.07. Seventh place went to Japan’s\u00a0Ryosuke Irie<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>in 24.11.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Backstroke<\/h1>\n

American teenager\u00a0Regan Smith is seeded first going into tonight’s finals of the women’s 100 backstroke. She touched first in 57.33, over a second faster than second place finisher\u00a0Etiene Medeiros<\/strong> of Brazil. Medeiros finished in 58.69.<\/p>\n

A second American,\u00a0Alex Walsh, placed third in 58.98. Japan’s\u00a0Sayaka<\/strong> Akase<\/strong> was fourth in 59.02.\u00a0Margaret Macneil<\/strong> of Canada came in fifth in 59.05.<\/p>\n

Sixth place went to China’s\u00a0Jie Chen<\/strong> in 59.70. Germany’s\u00a0Lisa Graf<\/strong> was seventh in 1:00.59. Her teammate\u00a0Lisa Hopink<\/strong> finished eighth in 1:01.21.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 IM<\/h1>\n

Japan’s Seto led the men’s 200 IM in 1:55.04, followed by his teammate Irie in 1:55.59 for second. Hungary’s\u00a0David Foldhazi<\/strong> was third in 1:56.16.<\/p>\n

Kenneth To\u00a0<\/strong>of Hong Kong came in fourth in 1:56.21, while Israel’s Toumarkin placed fifth in 1:56.49.<\/p>\n

Hungarian teammates\u00a0Peter Bernek\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0David Verraszto<\/strong> came in sixth and seventh in times of 1:56.91 and 1:57.00, respectively.\u00a0Russia’s Prigoda finished eighth in 1:57.17.<\/p>\n

Women’s 50 Butterfly<\/h1>\n

Australia’s\u00a0Cate Campbell<\/strong>\u00a0beat out Brazil’s\u00a0Daynara De Paula<\/strong> to take the top spot in the women’s 50 butterfly. Campbell touched in 25.53 to De Paula’s 25.68.<\/p>\n

Maaike De Waard\u00a0<\/strong>of the Netherlands finished third in 25.79. China’s\u00a0Yufei Zhang<\/strong> placed fourth in 25.84.<\/p>\n

Pernille Blume\u00a0<\/strong>of Denmark and\u00a0Emma McKeon<\/strong> of Australia tied for fifth place in 26.26. Seventh place went to China’s\u00a0Menghui Zhu<\/strong> in 26.27 just behind them.<\/p>\n

Men’s 1500 Freestyle<\/h1>\n

Trey Freeman<\/strong> of the United States led the morning heats of the men’s 1500 freestyle, finishing first in 15:06.13. Singapore’s\u00a0Glen Jun Wei Lim<\/strong> placed second in 15:28.89. Third place went to India’s\u00a0Kushagra Rawat<\/strong> in 15:40.10.<\/p>\n

Australian\u00a0Jamie Oliver Parker<\/strong> came in fourth in 15:50.04.\u00a0Maximillian Wei Ang<\/strong> of Singapore finished fifth in 16:05.31, while his teammate\u00a0Timothy Tan<\/strong> was sixth in 16:33.69.<\/p>\n

Yi Liang Pek<\/strong> and\u00a0Ardi Azman<\/strong>, both of Singapore, were seventh and eighth in 16:39.83 and 16:46.08, respectively.<\/p>\n

Women’s 200 Freestyle<\/h1>\n

Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> narrowly edged out Sweden’s\u00a0Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> in the women’s 200 freestyle. Hosszu touched in 1:54.49, while Sjostrom was 1:54.57.<\/p>\n

Lia Neal\u00a0<\/strong>of the United States placed third in 1:55.99. Australia’s\u00a0McKeon was fourth in 1:56.16, while her teammate\u00a0Brittany Elmslie<\/strong> came in fifth in 1:56.70.<\/p>\n

A third Australian,\u00a0Bronte Campbell<\/strong>, was just behind in 1:56.71 for sixth.\u00a0Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> of the Netherlands finished seventh in 1:56.76. Yet another\u00a0Australian,\u00a0Gemma Cooney<\/strong>, was eighth in 1:56.94.<\/p>\n

Men’s 100 Butterfly<\/h1>\n

The top spot for finals in the men’s 100 butterfly went to China’s\u00a0Zhuhao Li<\/strong> in 50.86. He was followed by two swimmers from Belarus,\u00a0Yauhen Tsurkin<\/strong> and Sankovich, for second and third. Tsurkin finished in 51.27, while Sankovich went 51.73.<\/p>\n

A pair of Australians finished fourth and fifth.\u00a0Nic Brown<\/strong> came in at 51.79, while\u00a0Edward Marks<\/strong> was 51.82.<\/p>\n

Sixth place went to\u00a0Sajan Prakash Prakash<\/strong> of\u00a0India in 51.87, while Japan’s\u00a0Masaki Kaneko<\/strong> was seventh in 51.88. Germany’s\u00a0Ramon Klenz<\/strong>\u00a0and Hungary’s\u00a0Daniel Dudas<\/strong> tied for eighth in 52.67.<\/p>\n

Mixed 4×50 Freestyle Relay<\/h1>\n

Australia\u00a0<\/strong>led the prelims of the mixed 4×50 freestyle relay in 1:31.68. The\u00a0Netherlands<\/strong> was second in 1:32.29. The team of American<\/strong> teenagers finished third in 1:33.53, just off the World Junior record of 1:33.37.<\/p>\n

Singapore\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth in 1:34.38, while\u00a0Germany<\/strong> was fifth in 1:34.96.\u00a0Canada\u00a0<\/strong>took sixth in 1:36.24.<\/p>\n

Seventh place went to\u00a0Hong Kong\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:36.64.\u00a0China\u00a0<\/strong>finished eighth in 1:37.42.<\/p>\n
