At the Tokyo World Cup stop, the second of three meets in the final cluster of FINA’s signature circuit, the first day of prelims was dominated by Japanese swimmers competing in their home country.<\/p>\n

Japan’s\u00a0Hiroko Makino\u00a0<\/strong>led the way in the women’s 200 fly in 2:07.62, and she was followed by countrywomen\u00a0Suzuka Hasegawa\u00a0<\/strong>(2:07.82) and\u00a0Mizuki Kurashina<\/strong> (2:09.41). Another trio of Japanese swimmers grabbed the top three spots in the women’s 100 back,\u00a0Emi Moronuki\u00a0<\/strong>(57.52),\u00a0Natsumi Sakai\u00a0<\/strong>(58.58) and\u00a0Miki Takahashi\u00a0<\/strong>(58.95).<\/p>\n

Junki Yasuda\u00a0<\/strong>led the way in the men’s 50 back for Japan in 24.09, two hundredths ahead of\u00a0Junya Hasegawa\u00a0<\/strong>(24.11). Another Japanese swimmer,\u00a0Yuuma Edo<\/strong>, took third in 24.48.\u00a0Takeshi Kawamoto<\/strong> led the 100 fly in 50.95, with fellow Japanese swimmer\u00a0Nao Horomora\u00a0<\/strong>edging 200 fly Olympic silver medalist\u00a0Masato Sakai<\/strong> for second, 51.32 to 51.34.<\/p>\n

Japan’s\u00a0Saaya Isobe\u00a0<\/strong>finished in 31.22 for the top seed in the women’s 50 breast, a tenth ahead of countrywoman Shiho Terukina<\/strong> (31.32).\u00a0Asuka Ohwada<\/strong>,\u00a0Kako Ishida<\/strong> and\u00a0Yuki Takasaki<\/strong> all tied for third at 31.42.<\/p>\n

Japan’s\u00a0Yasuhiro Koseki<\/strong> paced the field in the men’s 100 breast, followed by countryman\u00a0Masaki Niiyama<\/strong> (57.76) and Brazil’s\u00a0Raphael Rodrigues<\/strong> (57.78). Russia’s\u00a0Vladimir Morozov\u00a0<\/strong>was first in the men’s 100 free with his time of 46.85. Japan’s\u00a0Katsumi\u00a0<\/strong>Nakamura\u00a0<\/strong>took second in 47.06, and South Korea’s\u00a0Park Tae Hwan<\/strong> was third in 47.59.<\/p>\n

Japan’s\u00a0Rikako Ikee<\/strong>\u00a0edged out Brazil’s\u00a0Daynara De Paula\u00a0<\/strong>for the top spot in the women’s 50 fly, 25.74 to 25.83, and the Netherlands’\u00a0Maaike De Waard\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 25.93.<\/p>\n

China’s\u00a0Xu Jiayu<\/strong> put up a time of 1:51.04 to top the field in the men’s 200 back. Japan finished 2-3 with\u00a0Masato Kaneko<\/strong> (1:51.36) and 2012 Olympic silver medalist\u00a0Ryosuke Irie\u00a0<\/strong>(1:51.90).\u00a0In the men’s 50 fly, Belarus’\u00a0Pavel Sankovich<\/strong> finished just ahead of Japan’s\u00a0Takeshi Kawamoto<\/strong>, 22.87 to 22.92. Hong Kong’s\u00a0Kenneth To\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 23.02.<\/p>\n

Japan’s\u00a0Emi Moronuki<\/strong> took the top spot in the women’s 50 back (26.58), while Australian great\u00a0Emily Seebohm<\/strong> was just behind in 26.66. American teenager\u00a0Alex Walsh<\/strong> qualified third in 26.89.<\/p>\n

In her only prelims swim of the day, Sweden’s\u00a0Sarah Sjostrom\u00a0<\/strong>topped the field in the women’s 200 free, touching in 1:55.02, while Australian sprinter\u00a0Cate Campbell\u00a0<\/strong>made a rare 200-meter appearance and qualified second in 1:55.48. Japan’s\u00a0Chihiro Igarashi\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 1:55.89.<\/p>\n

Japan’s\u00a0Mahiro Ishii<\/strong> posted the top time out of the early heats of the women’s 800 free, touching in 8:30.49. In the women’s 400 IM,\u00a0Hungary’s\u00a0Boglarka Kapas\u00a0<\/strong>had the top time at 4:36.11.<\/p>\n
