Wang Shun<\/strong> of China, Tou<\/strong>markin<\/strong> Zhuravl<\/strong>\u00a0of Israel and Junya Koga<\/strong> of Japan each turned in sub-54 second 100m IM’s to take the next three qualification spots\u00a0for the final. Hungarian Daniel Dudas<\/strong> and Dutch native Kyle Stolk<\/strong> rounded out the top eight in 54.07 and 54.15.<\/p>\nWomen’s 200m Breaststroke<\/h3>\n
Winner of last night’s 50m breaststroke, Alia Atkinson<\/strong> out of Jamaica, placed third in the heats of the 200m distance with a time of 2:24.94. Ahead of her was\u00a0Rikke Perdersen<\/strong> out of Denmark, who posted a time of 2:24.23. The top seed leading into tonight’s final goes to Japan’s Runa Imai<\/strong>, who swam a 2:23.59 to earn the top spot. China’s Jingyao Yu<\/strong> and Muyan Zheng<\/strong> will also be in the finals heat tonight along with Qinhua Wu<\/strong>,\u00a0Haoyu Han<\/strong> and\u00a0Yeyao Liu<\/strong>.<\/p>\nMen’s 400m Freestyle<\/h3>\n
Ukrainian distance star\u00a0Mykhailo Romanchuk<\/strong> will take the middle lane in tonights final by virtue of swimming a 3:44.98 in the preliminaries, which was about a second faster than the second-fastest qualifier; China’s\u00a0Xinjie Ji<\/strong>. Poul Zellmann<\/strong> turned in the third fastest time with a 3:46.21. China’s Ziao Qiu<\/strong>, The Netherlands’ Matthew Stanley<\/strong>, Hungary’s David Verrastzo<\/strong> followed closely behind. Rounding out the top eight qualifiers leading into tonight’s finals are a pair a Aussie distance men, Alexander Graham<\/strong> and Jacob Ross<\/strong> Hansford<\/strong>.<\/p>\nWomen’s 100m Freestyle<\/h3>\n
Cate Campbell<\/strong> dove back into the pool this morning after her bronze medal performance in the 50m freestyle last night. This time, Campbell earned herself the top seed in tonight’s final by swimming past American Lia Neal<\/strong> with a time of 52.58. Neal posted a swift 52.89 to sneak in right behind Campbell. China’s\u00a0Menghui Zhu<\/strong> posted a 52.93, which earned her the third spot in the final. Denmark’s Pernille Blume<\/strong> swam a 53.00 to get fourth while Brittany Elmslie<\/strong> raced to fifth with a 53.47. The second of the Campbell sisters, Bronte Campbell<\/strong> earned sixth place this morning with her time of 54.01. Getting the last two spots are Yue Wu<\/strong> and\u00a0Yanhan Ai<\/strong> out of China.<\/p>\nMen’s 200m Backstroke<\/h3>\n
Japanese backstroke legend and former world record holder Ryosuke Irie<\/strong>\u00a0was back in action this morning. Irie swam a 1:53.26 to earn the lane four possession in tonight’s finals session. Australian up and comer Bradley Woodward<\/strong> was just .12 behind Irie in 1:53.38. Coming in at 1:53.66 and 1:53.95 were Christian Diener<\/strong> and\u00a0Guangyuan Li<\/strong>, respectively.\u00a0Zhuravi\u00a0of Israel, David Foldhazi<\/strong> of Hungary, Yan Jin<\/strong> and Nelson Silva Junior<\/strong> out of Brazil, finished up our top eight qualifiers.<\/p>\nWomen’s 200m Medley<\/h3>\n
With a strong slap of dominance the Iron Lady, Katinka Hosszu<\/strong>, managed to post a 2:06.66 to earn herself the top time out of this morning’s preliminaries by over five full seconds. The second fastest qualifier\u00a0was Seoyeong Kim<\/strong> out of South Korea with a 2:11.27. Australian legend Emily<\/strong> Seebohm<\/strong>\u00a0turned in the third fastest time 2:11.59. Imai from Japan was fourth, Sishi Zhang<\/strong> from China was fifth. The sixth, seventh and eighth place qualifiers were Alexandra Wenk<\/strong>,\u00a0Jiaqi Zhang<\/strong> and\u00a0Rikke Pederson<\/strong>.<\/p>\nMen’s 50m Butterfly<\/h3>\n
American sprinter Michael Andrew<\/strong> made his way into\u00a0a final in Beijing and posted the top time in the process. Andrew swam a 22.87 to earn his spot but was followed closely by To, who went a 22.90. Just .02 behind was Peng Wang<\/strong> of China in 22.92. The fastest of the 23-second swims was\u00a0Qibin Zhang<\/strong> out of China with a 23.06. Morozov and Yauhen Tsurkin<\/strong> tied for the fifth spot in a time of 23.24. A tenth behind the tying pair was Li, to round out the top-eight times.<\/p>\nWomen’s 50m Backstroke<\/h3>\n
Hosszu did not show signs of letting up as the prelims session progressed. This was shown by the Iron Lady turning in\u00a0a top time yet again this morning. Contrary to the 200m IM, Hosszu was only .07 ahead of the second fastest finisher with a 26.83. Seebohm nearly edged Hosszu though, with a 26.90, to stay under the 27-second mark and earn the second seed going into tonight’s finals.\u00a0Xueer Wang and Ranomi<\/strong> Kromowidjojo<\/strong> took the next two spots while Jie Chen<\/strong> and\u00a0Maaike De Waard<\/strong> placed fifth and six respectively. Rounding out the top-eight was Xiang Li and Sayaka Akase<\/strong>.<\/p>\nMen’s 100m Breaststroke<\/h3>\n
Lizhuo Wang<\/strong> out of China earned himself the top seed for tonight’s finals session with the time of 57.33. Behind him were a cluster of high 57’s turned in by Ilya Shymanovich<\/strong>,\u00a0Daiya Seto<\/strong>,\u00a0Zibei Yan\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Yasuhiro Koseki<\/strong>.\u00a0This\u00a0small gap between\u00a0times should make for some interesting racing during tonight’s finals. Matthew Wilson<\/strong> is also in the final with prelims time of 58.27. Rounding out the field with a tie was\u00a0Feilian Mao<\/strong> and\u00a0Kirill Prigoda<\/strong>. Luckily, since the last two swimmers tied for seventh and not eighth place, there will be no swim off necessary.<\/p>\nWomen’s 800m Freestyle (slower heats)<\/h3>\n
The small American crew at this World Cup stop is finally make it’s way towards the top of the results. The top\u00a0time was awarded to\u00a0Yejie Chen<\/strong> of China for\u00a0swimming\u00a0a 8:42.16.\u00a0The American duo of Miranda Heckman<\/strong> and Daniella Damele Hawkins<\/strong> posted the second and third fastest time of the prelims with 8:43.68 and 8:43.73 respectively. These top three times, along with the rest of the preliminary competitors, will stand until the fastest seeded heat swims tonight. Times from the preliminary heats that took place this morning in Beijing, do have a chance to place within the top eight.<\/p>\nMen’s 50m Freestyle<\/h3>\n
Ukrainian sprint star\u00a0Andrii Govorov<\/strong> took the top spot by swimming a 21.50. Just 0.01 behind was USA’s Andrew and 0.01 behind Andrew was RSA’s le Clos in 21.52. Cameron McEvoy<\/strong>, Shinri Shioura<\/strong> and To earned the next three spots. Sankovich and Daniel Hunter<\/strong> rounded out tonight’s top eight swimmers.<\/p>\nWomen’s 100m Butterfly<\/h3>\n
Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> posted a 56.96, to comfortably take the top spot ahead of Kim, who swam a 58.14. A\u00a0fair amount of 58-second swims came in right behind Kim, which will make for a very tight race during tonight’s finals. Christina Licciardi, Kin Lok Chan and Kromowidjojo were all within the 58-second territory.
