{"id":283829,"date":"2017-11-10T07:30:06","date_gmt":"2017-11-10T14:30:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=283829"},"modified":"2017-11-10T07:10:10","modified_gmt":"2017-11-10T14:10:10","slug":"rutgers-swim-dive-welcomes-carmen-young-as-director-of-player-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/rutgers-swim-dive-welcomes-carmen-young-as-director-of-player-development\/","title":{"rendered":"Rutgers Swim &#038; Dive Welcomes Carmen Young as Director of Player Development"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rutgers swimming and diving head coach\u00a0<strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/scarletknights.com\/staff.aspx?staff=247\" target=\"_blank\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/scarletknights.com\/staff.aspx?staff%3D247&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1510408684199000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGJGVLusWVwI7PkirUiBdxYI3pQ2w\">Petra Martin<\/a><\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>announced today the addition of\u00a0<strong>Carmen Young\u00a0<\/strong>to the Scarlet Knights&#8217; support staff as the Volunteer Director of Player Development.<\/p>\n<p>The newly acquired position is responsible for preparing student-athletes for personal, academic and athletic development success.\u00a0Young, who\u00a0has swimming experience at both the competitive and coaching level, will be assisting the program with\u00a0multifaceted\u00a0tasks.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m very excited to welcome Carmen to our program,&#8221; Martin said. &#8220;She has always been very passionate about swimming, and has a great understanding of the daily routines and commitments of a Division I swimmer. She understands what needs to be done in order to win. She knows what healthy team culture looks like and what needs to be done in order to build it and maintain it.\u00a0 Our student-athletes will benefit greatly from her presence.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Young is reunited with Martin after swimming under her tutelage for four years at Bowling Green State University from 2011-15. There, Young served as team captain for two years and led the squad to three consecutive third place team finishes at the Mid-American Conference Championships. In all, she has 16 years of swimming experience with a stint on a national club team.<\/p>\n<p>While swimming in high school and college, Young also found her way into the coaching ranks. She began as an assistant coach for summer leagues and club programs in Northern Virginia from 2010-14 before becoming the graduate assistant coach at Bowling Green State for two years under current head coach Matthew Ense from 2015-17.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am very excited to have the opportunity to work alongside Petra and the entire swimming and diving staff at Rutgers,&#8221; Young said. &#8220;The team atmosphere and culture is something special, and I am excited to be involved with that and help build on it. The sport of swimming holds a special place in my heart and to be able to work with these student-athletes means a lot to me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Young has been employed by Rutgers since June 2017 as a performance nutrition assistant, analyzing dietary practices, body composition and energy balance of student-athletes in the context of athletic performance and health.
