NEW COMMITS:\u00a0<\/strong>The University of Connecticut has received verbal commitments to the men’s and the women’s teams from YMCA of Burlington and Camden Counties (YBCC) Phoenix teammates\u00a0Tommy Schurer\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Anna Mecca<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Tommy Schurer<\/h2>\n

\u201cI want to thank my family, friends, and coaches for all of their support in helping me realize my goal of swimming at the D I level. I believe that Coach Chris is determined to build a great tradition at UCONN and I am excited to be part of the process.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Schurer is a multiple time Junior Nationals and YMCA National qualifier. He’s a senior at Moorestown High School.\u00a0His best times are:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • 200 Backstroke \u2013 1:48.48<\/li>\n
  • 100 Backstroke \u2013 51.28<\/li>\n
  • 200 IM \u2013 1:54.47<\/li>\n
  • 400 IM \u2013 4:05.83<\/li>\n
  • 100 Breaststroke \u2013 58.85<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Schurer ia already quick enough to finish in the top eight in the 100 back and top sixteen in the 200 back and 400 IM at the American Conference Championships. He’s not a stranger to championship level finals, having finished as high as 11th at YMCA Nationals in the 200 backstroke.<\/p>\n

    His club coach\u00a0Chris Brookover\u00a0<\/strong>said,<\/p>\n

    “Tommy is an exceptional young man. He is an extremely hard worker as well as one of the best teammates I have ever coached. UCONN is blessed to get him as I know he will explode in college next year\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Ann Mecca<\/h2>\n

    “I want to thank my family, friends and all my coaches for their support in my swimming and my dream of swimming at the Division I Level. Being a member of the YBCC has allowed me to become a better swimmer, teammate and person. I can\u2019t wait to grow as an athlete and student at UCONN in the fall.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

    Mecca is a senior at Cherry Hill West High School where she is a captain, school record holder, and a tri-county champion. A multiple time time YMCA National qualifier, Mecca was also a chartering member of the YBBC squad.<\/p>\n

    She is strongest in breaststroke and butterfly, and Brookover sees “enormous potential in sprint free and IM as well.” Her top times include:<\/p>\n

    • 200 Breast \u2013 2:25.31<\/li>\n
    • 100 Fly \u2013 58.39<\/li>\n
    • 100 Free \u2013 53.80<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Brookover said of Mecca,<\/p>\n
