BOULDER, Colorado, October 16. IT was a busy weekend for college dual meets, but perhaps no school was busier than the Stanford women and men.<\/p>\n
The Cardinal women competed at the two-day George Haines Invitational, picking up a team victory over squads from San Jose State, Hawaii and Nevada.<\/p>\n
Felicia Lee swam to three first place finishes in the morning session, held in long course meters, posting times of 57.73 in the 100 free, 1:01.74 in the 100 fly and 2:20.63 in the 200 back. She added wins in the 50-yard fly (24.25) and 50-yard back (24.94) on Friday night. <\/p>\n
Teammate Andie Taylor earned two wins on Saturday in the 200 meter free (2:05.22) and 200 meter fly (2:18.63) to boost the women to victory. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the Stanford men took on Hawaii on Friday, where freshman David Nolan raced to wins in the 200 free (1:38.40) and 200 back (1:46.57) to lead the men to victory. <\/p>\n
On Saturday, the team traveled to Stockton, California to compete in the Pacific Invitational, where they took home the team title over host Pacific and Brigham Young.<\/p>\n
Cardinal Jonathan Edwards was named Swimmer of the Meet after winning three events at the meet. His titles came in the 100 back (49.13), 200 IM (1:49.86) and 200 back (1:47.19).<\/p>\n
In other Division I action, Georgia took on inter-state rival Georgia Tech, with both the men and women coming out on top. For the Georgia women, the win marked their 74th consecutive dual\/tri meet victory at Gabrielsen Natatorium.<\/p>\n
Bulldog Andrew Gemmell was triumphant in three events at the meet, touching first in the 1000 free (9:12.79), 400 IM (3:58.57) and 500 free (4:29.70).<\/p>\n
Kelsey Gaid posted quick times in the 200 back (1:59.31) and 200 free (1:50.96) to lead the Georgia women.<\/p>\n
On Thursday night, the defending men's NCAA champion Cal-Berkeley kicked off their season against Hawaii, narrowly defeating the visiting Rainbow men by a score of 154-135. <\/p>\n
Cal took home wins in nine events, with each win coming from a different individual.
\n Will Hamilton (200 fly, 1:49.58), Shayne Fleming (50 free, 20.36), Sam Metz (200 free, 1:39.16), Marcin Tarczynski (100 back, 49.02) and Nolan Koon (100 breast, 54.81) all posted solid times to lead the Golden Bears.<\/p>\n
In Division III action, Denison kicked off its season with a win over visiting Asbury. Quinn Bartlett and Ben Snader each won two events for the men. Bartlett's wins came in the 200 back (1:51.02) and 50 free (21.46) while Snader touched first in the 100 breast (1:00.55) and 200 breast (2:13.41).<\/p>\n
Alyssa Swanson (50 free, 24.20; 100 free, 52.24) and Natalie Lugg (100 breast, 1:06.52; 200 breast, 2:28.42) picked up two wins apiece for the Denison women.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
