For more information about Agon, visit their website <a href=\"https:\/\/agonswim.com\/\">AgonSwim.com<\/a>.<\/i><\/i><\/i><\/p>\n<p>At the 2017 Arizona High School Division I Championships the Xavier College Prep girls came within a tenth of a second of a relay sweep and ultimately secured the state title. It was a rewarding end to a difficult season for the team. Head Coach <strong>Maureen Rankin\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/passages-maureen-mo-rankin-loses-battle-to-cancer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">passed away mid-season<\/a>. Her husband\u00a0<strong>Mark\u00a0<\/strong>stood in as head coach after her passing and\u00a0<strong>Jen James<\/strong>&#8216; time as Interim. The two shared Coach Of the Year honors. Rankin&#8217;s daughter\u00a0<strong>Mia\u00a0<\/strong>also took home two top three finishes.\u00a0Boulder Creek&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Claire Grover\u00a0<\/strong>put together some of the most impressive performances of the day, including a state record.<\/p>\n<p>Brophy College Prep swept the boys relays while a number of teams secured individual victories. Brophy College Prep secured its 30th straight team title.<\/p>\n<p>Further team scores were not yet available.<\/p>\n<h2>Girls<\/h2>\n<p>Xavier College Prep knocked the 200 medley relay out of the park.\u00a0<strong>Kaitlyn McCoy<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Paola Guerra<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Olivia Paliscak<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Mary Roediger\u00a0<\/strong>combined for a 1:45.97. Paliscak, Roediger,\u00a0<strong>Kelly Scott<\/strong>, and Guerra also combined for a 1:38.22 for gold in the 200 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n<p>Perry sophomore\u00a0<strong>Kalli Fama\u00a0<\/strong>broke away from the field to win the 200 free in 1:49.29. HIGH&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kyla Yetter\u00a0<\/strong>claimed silver (1:50.51) and Chandler&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Destiny Kling\u00a0<\/strong>(1:51.25) rounded off the top three. Yetter later won the 100 free (51.86) while Mountain View&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mackenzie Baird\u00a0<\/strong>and Rincon University High&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kristen Alicea Jorgensen\u00a0<\/strong>tied for second in 52.66.<\/p>\n<p>King touched in 4:55.75 in the 500 free, just before\u00a0Xavier Prep freshman\u00a0<strong>Mia Rankin\u00a0<\/strong>(4:55.93).<\/p>\n<p>McCoy earned her second gold of the afternoon with a 2:03.07 200 IM. Chandler&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sydney Chun\u00a0<\/strong>(2:04.14) and Rankin<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(2:04.68) were also in the top three. McCoy was on top again with a 55.05 100 back. Fama finished second (56.30).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Claire Grover\u00a0<\/strong>of Boulder Creek was well ahead in the 50 free with her 22.87. That time was a new state record. She also dominated the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.97, a new lifetime best by three tenths.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Olivia Grossklaus<\/strong>, a senior from Red Mountain won the 100 fly in 54.62 and Pinnacle&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gabby Lizzul\u00a0<\/strong>was second (55.73).<\/p>\n<p>Chadler prevented a Xavier relay sweep by just .09.\u00a0<strong>Charlotte Stenmark<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Adhlyn Reidhead<\/strong>, Chun, and\u00a0<strong>Destiny Kling\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 3:32.34 while Xavier&#8217;s <strong>Maddie Wright<\/strong>, McCoy, Rankin, and\u00a0<strong>Vica Dow<\/strong>\u00a0hit the wall in 3:32.43.<\/p>\n<h2>Boys<\/h2>\n<p>Brophy College Prep and Mountain View separated themselves from the field in the 200 medley relay.\u00a0<strong>Matt Milovanovic<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Patrick Schramm<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Michael Niezgodzi<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Dane Nelson\u00a0<\/strong>hit the wall in 1:34.00. With a 1:35.02 the Mountain View team of\u00a0<strong>Trey McDaniel<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Chris Allen<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Brian Rawlinson<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Nick Moreno\u00a0<\/strong>were second.<\/p>\n<p>The top four boys were all within eight tenths in the 200 freestyle. Chandler&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Terry Yang\u00a0<\/strong>got to the all a half second ahead of the next best with his 1:40.01. Corona del Sol&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Benjamin Quon\u00a0<\/strong>(1:40.52), Pinnacle&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Dyland Melin\u00a0<\/strong>(1:40.68), and Allen (1:40.84) followed.<\/p>\n<p>Chandler&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Michael Klauss\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 IM with a 1:51.86.\u00a0Two boys were under 50 in the 100 fly: Rincon University High&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Barberii Drake\u00a0<\/strong>(49.30) and Klauss (49.70).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tai Combs<\/strong>, a Perry senior, touched in 20.70 to win the 50 free. His teammate and fellow senior <strong>Kaden Miller<\/strong>\u00a0joined him on the podium with a 20.95. Miller then secured the victory in the 100 free in 46.04. Allen (46.38) and Combs (46.48) were just behind in second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Desert Mountain&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tanner Falls\u00a0<\/strong>just beat Chandler&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Terry Yang\u00a0<\/strong>4:31.23 to 4:31.40 for the 500 freestyle gold.<\/p>\n<p>Using\u00a0<strong>AJ Frakes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Dylan Krueger<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Grant Teisen<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Parker Hughes\u00a0<\/strong>Brophy College Prep added to their relay victory total with a 1:25.87 200 freestyle relay win.<\/p>\n<p>The top five 100 backstrokers finished within .34 of one another. Mountain View&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brian Rawlinson\u00a0<\/strong>got his hand to the wall first in 52.04.<\/p>\n<p>Schramm got to the wall in 57.54 to win the 100 breaststroke.
