BEAVERTON, Oregon, October 8. FOR the second straight day, California swam to a
\nvictory over Oregon State – this time capturing 13 of 14 events on
\nSaturday on the Nike Campus. Cal won what was a non-scored, non-conference
\nmeet; there was no diving.<\/p>\n
“I just wanted to get them to race in different racing situations, and it
\nwas good because we’re not going to have that opportunity again until
\nNovember,” Cal head coach Teri McKeever said. “It’s good for them to see
\nas we move through the season you have to compete on consecutive days –
\nmaybe two, three or three and a half when you get to Pac-10s or NCAAs. It
\nwas really good.<\/p>\n
“I thought that Caitlin did a nice job on some things. She swam the 100
\nbreaststroke and immediately swam the 500 free. Sara Isakovic had a nice
\nweekend, doing some different things on both days.”<\/p>\n
Leverenz, a junior, won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.37 and
\nthen placed second, behind Isakovic, in the 500 free. Isakovic, a senior,
\nhad a time of 4:55.48, with Leverenz the runner-up in 5:00.27.<\/p>\n
Katherine Raatz and Caroline Piehl each captured two individual events for
\nthe Golden Bears. Raatz, a senior, collected wins in the 200-yard
\nfreestyle, with a time of 1:50.79, and in the 50-yard freestyle, with a
\ntime of 23.84. Piehl, a freshman, posted victories in the 200-yard
\nindividual medley (2:04.75) and 100 free (52.01).<\/p>\n
The Bears opened the day by winning the 400-medley relay, with the quartet
\nof sophomore Stephanie Au, freshman Yvette Kong, Fotsch and freshman
\nKaylin Bing clocking a first-place time of 3:51.45. They closed the meet
\nby triumphing in the 200-free relay, with Leverenz, senior Liv Jensen,
\nsophomore Cindy Tran and freshman Camille Cheng notching a winning time of
\n1:35.22.<\/p>\n
Oregon State senior Jenni Dole won the 100 back in a time of 57.49.<\/p>\n
On Oct. 7, Cal beat Oregon State, 168-85, in Corvallis, Ore., in both
\nteams’ Pac-12 Conference-opening dual meet.<\/p>\n
Cal returns to action when it hosts Utah in another Pac-12 dual meet on
\nOct. 21 in the home opener at Spieker Aquatics Complex.<\/p>\n
