WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia, October 8. THE Tigers (1-0, 1-0 in CAA) opened up the team's conference season Saturday with a 142-120 victory over the William & Mary Tribe (0-1, 0-1 CAA).<\/p>\n
"I'm glad that we won, but we still have much to improve on," Towson Coach Pat Mead said. "We need to have more people contributing."<\/p>\n
Towson recorded strong times in numerous events en-route to the team's first victory of the season. Freshman Victoria Oslund competed in four events, winning both the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard butterfly individual events. Oslund followed up her time of 57.30 in the 100-yard event with a 2:05.45 time in the 200-yard butterfly. The team took the top three times in the 200-yard butterfly, with Kendall Towe and Marianna Kogut finishing in second and third place, respectively.<\/p>\n
"Victoria had an unbelievable meet," Mead said. "Those were great swims for her."<\/p>\n
Cari Czarnecki and Kaitlin Burke both also won multiple events for the Tigers. Czarnecki's time of 1:05.87 in the 100-yard breaststroke was almost two seconds better than fellow Tiger Maggie Macedonia. Towson had the top four finishers in the 100-yard breaststroke.<\/p>\n
Burke recorded three individual victories in the 100, 500 and 1000-yard freestyle events. Her time of 4:59.84 in the 500-yard freestyle was over seven seconds faster than the second place finisher in the event.<\/p>\n
Towson will have a two week layoff before returning to the pool Oct. 22 when they will travel to Georgetown University. The meet will begin at 1:00 p.m. <\/p>\n
