MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, October 7. SENIORS Caitlin Dauw (St. Charles, Ill.\/St. Charles East) and Alexa Mehesan (West Des Moines, Iowa\/Valley) of the University of Michigan women’s swimming and diving team each won individual events on Friday (Oct. 7), as the Wolverines kicked the 2011-12 season off against Minnesota at the University Aquatic Center. After one day of competition, Minnesota leads Michigan, 123-63.<\/p>\n
Dauw, who earned three NCAA All-America honorable mention awards and two Big Ten championships last season, won the 200-yard butterfly (2:02.34), while Mehesan won the 50-yard freestyle (23.30).<\/p>\n
In the diving well, the Wolverines occupied three of the top four spots on the one-meter board. Senior Amanda Lohman (Pittsburgh, Pa.\/Upper St. Clair) was second (274.88), with sophomores Erin Bridgewater (Kawkawlin, Mich.\/Bay City Western) and Brianna Maroukis (Kalamazoo, Mich.\/Portage Northern) in third (267.82) and fourth (256.35), respectively. <\/p>\n
The Wolverines return to the University Aquatic Center tomorrow (Saturday, Oct. 8) to conclude the two-day meet against the Golden Gophers. The competition is slated to wrap-up beginning at noon CDT.<\/p>\n
