PHOENIX, Arizona, October 4. THE International Swimming Hall of Fame pool in Fort Lauderdale has been in the news all year about the concern that the facility is outdated and that parts of it could face demolition. But the city is introducing new plans to turn the facility into a resort-type place, with a hotel and recreational pools. The two 50-meter pools would stay intact according to city officials in order to attract top-notch competitions, but the focus will be on bringing in constant traffic throughout the year with vacationers.<\/p>\n
The NCAA is looking into reversing its ban on texting between coaches and potential recruits. As we reported yesterday on swimmingworld.com, the NCAA presented a study that showed that 90 percent of teens send texts, and that one in three send more than 100 texts daily. The NCAA’s ban four years ago was put in place to keep recruits from bearing the cost of numerous texts from coaches, but with unlimited texting plans now a common feature on phone plans and teens using texts as a common form of communication, the ban could be lifted. But Kerry Kenny, the chair of the Division I student-athlete advisory committee called texting “unprofessional,” asking for a continued ban. If the ban is lifted, it wouldn’t go into effect until January 1. Furthermore, there is discussion that Division III schools could have the Facebook ban lifted. Right now, Division III is the only of the NCAA divisions to ban communication between school and recruit through Facebook.<\/p>\n
