﻿{"id":280611,"date":"2017-10-15T11:54:52","date_gmt":"2017-10-15T18:54:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=280611"},"modified":"2017-10-15T11:54:52","modified_gmt":"2017-10-15T18:54:52","slug":"george-masons-women-squeak-by-delaware-on-final-relay-mason-men-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/george-masons-women-squeak-by-delaware-on-final-relay-mason-men-win\/","title":{"rendered":"George Mason&#8217;s Women Squeak By Delaware On Final Relay; Mason Men Win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It all came down to the final race, as the University of Delaware women\u2019s swimming and diving program trailed George Mason by 11 points heading into the 400 freestyle relay Saturday afternoon at Rawstrom Natatorium.<\/p>\n<p>The Blue Hens (0-2) got a clutch performance for the \u2018A\u2019 400 free relay team of <strong>Melissa Manuelli<\/strong>, <strong>Ellie Jogani<\/strong>, <strong>Sarah Braatz<\/strong> and <strong>Athena Cimino<\/strong>, as the quartet (3:33.93) defeated the Patriots (3:37.32) (1-0) \u2018A\u2019 relay team by almost four seconds. The results gave the Hens a critical 11 points. Delaware\u2019s \u2018B\u2019 relay team finished just over a quarter of a second behind the GMU top squad. The result swung the meet in favor of the visitors, as George Mason defeated Delaware 151-149.<\/p>\n<p>The Patriots won 12 events including the opening 200-yard medley relay, where senior <strong>Amy Tansill<\/strong> and juniors <strong>Marla Albanese<\/strong>, <strong>Theresa Cotter<\/strong> and <strong>Dorothy Reilly<\/strong> combined for a first place finish (1:48.15).<\/p>\n<p>Reilly went on to claim three individual events for the Patriots, winning the 100-yard butterfly (57.50), 200-yard butterfly (2:04.39) and 200-yard IM (2:08.85).\u00a0Tansill touched the wall first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:05.60) with Barahona placing third (1:06.68).\u00a0 In the 200-yard breaststroke, Barahona took first (2:25.95) and Tansill was second (2:26.63). Sophomore <strong>Hannah Ikenberry<\/strong>\u00a0posted one of her three individual victories in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:28.88) and also won the 500 free (5:11.27) and the 100 back (59.05).<\/p>\n<p>For Delaware, Athena Cimino, a junior transfer from Georgia Southern University, continued her strong start to the season as the Florida native finished first in the 50 free (24.70) and 100 free (53.6). Cimino also served as the anchor leg of the victorious 400 free relay team.<\/p>\n<p>Delaware Juniors\u00a0<strong>Amy Nemeth<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>Samantha Marino<\/strong> also won events for the Blue Hens in the 200 free (1:56.76) and the 200 back respectively.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side, the Patriots from George Mason won 11\u00a0total events.<\/p>\n<p>Mason started fast when seniors <strong>Matthew Lynch<\/strong> and <strong>Alec Morin<\/strong> along with sophomores <strong>Logan Eubanks<\/strong> and <strong>Christopher Stankiewicz<\/strong> combined to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:34.37).\u00a0Morin swam to first place finishes in both the 50-yard freestyle (21.59) and 100-yard freestyle (47.03).<\/p>\n<p>Stankiewicz posted a win in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.45), while Pettinichi placed third (1:00.09).\u00a0 Donnelly won the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.48) with Eubanks finishing second (1:56.70).<\/p>\n<p>The Patriots took the top three spots in the 100-yard butterfly, with Lynch placing first (50.63), Truong second (50.94) and Alarcon third (51.93).\u00a0 The trio also claimed the top three spots in the 200-yard butterfly, with Lynch finishing first (1:51.54), Alarcon second (1:54.85) and Truong third (1:56.38).<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore <strong>Attila Kiss<\/strong> posted a first place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:38.77), while senior <strong>Steven Craig<\/strong> was third (9:48.00).
