The No. 18 Tennessee men (3-0, 1-0 SEC) narrowly defeated host and 10th-ranked Auburn 180-173 and beat No. 25 Wisconsin 261-91 in a battle of national powers.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the 14th-ranked Tennessee women (2-1, 0-1) beat No. 12 Wisconsin 204-149 but lost to No. 15 Auburn 181-172.<\/p>\n

The teams do not face every season, but it was the Tennessee men’s first dual meet victory against Auburn since 2008 and the first on the road since 1995 as part of a perfect 7-0 season.<\/p>\n

Senior Peter John Stevens<\/strong> earned a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke (54.34), his signature event, and he swam the breaststroke leg on the winning 200 medley relay team with Braga Verhage, Ryan Coetzee<\/strong> and Kyle DeCoursey<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Junior transfer Colin Zeng<\/strong> swept the springboard events at the meet, earning a victory on the 1-meter springboard in 377.50, followed by Liam Stone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Taylor Abbott<\/strong> won the 500 freestyle (4:25.89) after recording a pair of second-place finishes Friday.<\/p>\n

In total, the Tennessee men won 10 of the 19 men’s events.<\/p>\n

Auburn’s women were led in the sweep by Aly Tetzloff<\/strong>, who won the 100 back in 53.58 and also led off Auburn’s top 200 medley team in 25.16.<\/p>\n

Breanna Roman<\/strong> touched first in the 100 breast in 1:02.60.<\/p>\n

Alison Maillard<\/strong> took top honors on the 3-meter, scoring a personal-best 345.10, her second zone qualifying score of the weekend. Freshman Erin Norton<\/strong> also picked up a zone score, finishing third with a 281.75.<\/p>\n

The Tennessee women earned three more individual events, giving them five for the meet.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Tess Cieplucha<\/strong> won the 400 IM by more than six seconds in 4:14.89 and also placed second in the 500 freestyle later in the session. Sophomore Erika Brown<\/strong> won the 100 butterfly in 52.99.<\/p>\n

In the men’s races, Auburn’s top 200 medley relay team of Hugo Gonzalez<\/strong> (22.52), Peter Holoda<\/strong> (26.17), Luis Martinez<\/strong> (21.35) and Zach Apple<\/strong> (20.00) combined for a second-place finish of 1:30.03 behind Tennessee’s 1:26.71.<\/p>\n

Apple, the school record holder in the 200 free, won the event 1:38.24.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez, who won the 200 back and 200 IM on Friday, took the 400 IM(3:47.78) and 100 back (48.58) on Saturday to give him four individual wins in his first meet for Auburn.<\/p>\n

Martinez also took the top spot in the 100 fly in 47.22.<\/p>\n

For Wisconsin, Maddie Tew<\/strong> won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:53.66 and Abby Jagdfeld<\/strong> won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:48.44.<\/p>\n

\nMissouri splits with South Carolina, Arkansas S.C. split<\/h3>\n

The Missouri men’s swimming and diving team opened Southeastern Conference action with a 154-144 dual win over South Carolina on Saturday afternoon, while the Tiger women suffered a pair of close losses to Arkansas (167-133) and South Carolina (172-129). South Carolina beat Arkansas 155-145.<\/p>\n

For the Missouri men, junior Kyle Goodwin<\/strong> and sophomore Daniel Hein<\/strong> each took home two event wins on the day. Goodwin swept the 1-meter and 3-meter springboards with scores of 335.40 and 370.20, respectively. The wins were the third and fourth in as many chances for Goodwin this season.<\/p>\n

Arkansas freshman Peyton Palsha<\/strong> got things started for Arkansas, winning the 1000 free in a season-best 9:58.67. Senior Chelsea Tatlow<\/strong> recorded Arkansas\u2019 second individual victory with a season-best 1:50.53 performance in the 200 free. Freshman diver Brooke Schultz<\/strong> swept the 1m and 3m springboards for the second consecutive meet, scoring 331.75 and 360.20, respectively. In the 1m, Schultz outscored the field by 21.20 points.<\/p>\n

South Carolina’s Cody Bekemeyer<\/strong> won the 1000 free (9:08.30) ahead of teammate Akram Mahmoud<\/strong> (9:18.39). Fynn Minuth<\/strong> won the 200 butterfly (1:47.53) and the 500 freestyle (4:25.67). Patrick McCrillis<\/strong> won the 50 freestyle (20.78). Nils Wich-Glasen<\/strong> won the 200 breaststroke (1:59.83).<\/p>\n

Kersten Dirrane<\/strong> won the 100 breaststroke (1:02.63) and 200 breaststroke (2:15.77). Christina Lappin<\/strong> won the 100 freestyle (50.82). Emma Barksdale<\/strong> won the 500 freestyle (4:52.76) and the 200 IM (2:00.92).<\/p>\n

\n

Kentucky sweeps Eastern Michigan<\/h3>\n

The Kentucky swimming and diving teams defeated Eastern Michigan inside the Lancaster Aquatic Center on Saturday afternoon. The women topped the Eagles 174-124, while the men won 184-113.<\/p>\n

Seventeen different Wildcats recorded victories across 22 individual events throughout the meet. Kentucky also posted six individual NCAA ‘B’ cuts in the outing.<\/p>\n

The UK divers got things started on the right foot for the men’s team in its season-opening dual, securing victories across all four events. Sophomore Kevin Frebel<\/strong> led the way on the three-meter springboard with a score of 328.20. Junior Seb Masterton<\/strong> brought home the win on one-meter with a 307.13 tally.<\/p>\n

Senior captain Isaac Jones<\/strong> put up wins in both the 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle races. The Kentucky record-holder in the event, Jones first led the Wildcats in a 1-2-3 sweep of the mile with a time of 15:32. He led another sweep in the 500, touching the wall in 4:30.07.<\/p>\n

Sophomores Glen Brown<\/strong> and Jason Head both had a pair of wins each as well. Brown brought home wins in the 200 free and 400 IM, while Head finished first in the 50- and 100-yard free.<\/p>\n

On the women’s side, junior Courtney Clark<\/strong> put the Wildcats at an early advantage with a win on the one-meter springboard. Sophomore Emma Dellmore<\/strong> followed up with a victory of her own on three-meter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
