Junior <strong>Ken Takahashi<\/strong> got the Bears started when it came to race wins, posting a time of 9:34.31 to take the 1,000-yard freestyle.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jack Xie<\/strong> kept the Bears in the win column with a victory in the 200 free, leading a 1-2-3 Cal finish with a time of 1:41.24. <strong>Andy Song<\/strong> swam to a time of 50.11 to win the 100 back, <strong>Matt Whittle<\/strong> posted a time of 56.56 to win the 100 breast and <strong>Ryan Kao<\/strong> touched first in 1:49.22 for a victory in the 200 fly.<\/p>\n<h3>Cal women top Utah<\/h3>\n<p>In its first dual meet of the season, second-ranked Cal cruised past Utah, 186-114, Monday with a trio of swimmers winning two individual events each \u2013 freshman <strong>Ali Harrison<\/strong>, junior <strong>Amy<\/strong> <strong>Bilquist<\/strong> and senior <strong>Noemie Thomas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Harrison earned wins in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, while Bilquist swept the 100 and 200 freestyle, and Thomas took first in the 100 and 200 butterfly. In addition to Harrison, other freshmen who prevailed were <strong>Briana Thai<\/strong> on the 1-meter springboard, <strong>Sophie Krivokapic-Zhou<\/strong> in the 200 back and <strong>Sarah Darcel<\/strong> in the 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore <strong>Maddie Murphy<\/strong> won the 50 free and Alexa Cacao triumphed on the 3-meter board to round out the individual victors. The foursome of Bilquist, Harrison, Thomas and <strong>Valerie Hull<\/strong> also touched first in the opening 200 medley relay.<\/p>\n<p>In her first collegiate meet, <strong>Sara McClendon<\/strong> won the 1000 free touching in at 10:13.16 and the 500 free with a time of 5:00.36.<\/p>\n<p>Another freshman, <strong>Emma Broome<\/strong> was able to get a victory for the Utes in the 100 back, finishing with a time of 56.36.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Dan D&#8217;Addona.
