Halfway through a two day, double dual meet with Wisconsin and Tennessee, there have been some fast races by all three teams.<\/p>\n

The Auburn women are winning both meets while the men are ahead of Wisconsin but trail Tennessee.<\/p>\n

The Tennessee men won six events and lead Auburn 98-88 and Wisconsin 135-55. The Tennessee women, winners of two events, lead Wisconsin 103-83 but trail Auburn 106-80.<\/p>\n

In total, Auburn won nine events on Friday, five by the women and four by the men.<\/p>\n

Hugo Gonzalez<\/strong>, a freshman from Spain, picked up a pair of wins, taking down the field in both the 200 IM (1:47.15) and the 200 back (1:45.53). Teammate Petter Fredriksson<\/strong>, a sophomore, was second in the 200 back (1:47.93).<\/p>\n

Gonzalez also led off Auburn’s winning 400 medley relay with a 47.45 split, the fastest leadoff split by over two seconds. He was followed by Tommy Brewer<\/strong> in the breaststroke (55.50), Luis Martinez in the fly (46.93) and Peter Holoda<\/strong> in the free (43.63) as Auburn went 3:13.51 to out-touch Tennessee’s top squad and the runner-up by over two seconds.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Julie Meynen,<\/strong> who went undefeated in the 100 free during dual meets as a freshman, kept her streak alive on Friday, winning the event in 49.46.<\/p>\n

Senior Sam McHugh<\/strong> helped lead the way on the men’s side, winning the 200-yard butterfly (1:48.18) and coming in second place in the 200 individual medley, good for his first NCAA B-cut time of the season (1:47.88).<\/p>\n

Senior David Heron<\/strong> led off individual races with a victory in the 1,000 freestyle (9:10.37).<\/p>\n

Junior Kyle DeCoursey<\/strong> won the 50 freestyle and teamed up at the end of the session with Braga Verhage, Ryan Coetzee<\/strong> and Alec Connolly<\/strong> to win the 200 freestyle relay (1:20.46).<\/p>\n

Aggies ahead of MSU, Notre Dame<\/h3>\n

The Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving team nearly posted a clean sweep of the day’s events against host Notre Dame and Michigan State on Friday at the Rolfs Aquatic Center on the Notre Dame campus.<\/p>\n

The Aggies won eight of nine events, as they tallied a head-to-head win over Michigan State (98-62) and grabbed a commanding 121-46 day one lead over Notre Dame.\u00a0 For the men, the Aggies defeated the Spartans, 98-64, and grabbed a 101.5-64.5 day one advantage over the host Irish. The Aggies and Irish will conclude their two-day, 18-event dual meet on Saturday with the first race at 10 a.m.<\/p>\n

Leading the way with a pair of individual wins was senior Bethany Galat<\/strong>, who was victorious in the 200 IM in 1:59.00 and the 200 butterfly in a facility record 1:57.67.<\/p>\n

Senior All-American Mauro Castillo<\/strong> tallied a pair of victories and swam a leg on the Aggies’ winning 400 medley relay. Castillo posted the Aggies’ first race win of the night in the 200 IM in a time of 1:48.99 and then took the 100 breaststroke two races later in a time of 54.96.<\/p>\n

Senior Brock Bonetti<\/strong>, junior Angel Martinez<\/strong> and sophomore Adam Koster<\/strong> each grabbed individual wins and contributed to the 400 medley relay win. Bonetti won the 200 backstroke in 1:44.74, Martinez won the 200 butterfly in 1:47.90 and Koster took the 100 free in 44.22.<\/p>\n

Vanderbilt beats North Florida<\/h3>\n

Vanderbilt sped past the North Florida Ospreys Thursday afternoon, winning all 11 events in their dual meet en route to a decisive 151-53 win.<\/p>\n

Sophomore Paige Hamilton<\/strong>, junior Johanna Goldblatt<\/strong> and senior Breanna Sapienza<\/strong> lead Vanderbilt with three wins a piece. Goldblatt sprinted her way to a win in the 50-yard freestyle, Sapienza won the 100-yard butterfly, and Hamilton took first in the 100-yard freestyle. All three women also finished first as part of the 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard freestyle relay.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
