The Georgia Bulldogs swept North Carolina in a dual meet on Friday.<\/p>\n
The No. 8-ranked Georgia men posted a 187-113 win, while the No. 4 Lady Bulldogs took a 180-120 decision over the No. 22 Tar Heels. Both Georgia teams improved to 2-0 on the season.<\/p>\n
Jay Litherland<\/strong> was a triple winner for the Bulldogs. He won the 200 freestyle in 1:37.23, the 200 backstroke in 1:46.29 and the 400 individual medley in 3:51.46.<\/p>\n Javier Acevedo<\/strong> and James Guest<\/strong> each won two events for Georgia. Acevedo’s time of 47.67 won the 100 backstroke. He then added a win in the 100 freestyle in 44.86. Guest swept the breaststroke events, winning the 100 in 55.07 and the 200 in 1:59.42.<\/p>\n Powell Brooks<\/strong> won the 200 butterfly in 1:47.77, Walker Higgins<\/strong> won the 500 freestyle in 4:25.01 and Greg Reed took the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 9:06.76.<\/p>\n The Bulldogs won the 200 medley relay as the quartet of Acevedo, Guest, Camden Murphy<\/strong> and Litherland finished in 1:29.28.<\/p>\n Murphy, Kevin Litherland<\/strong>, Higgins and Acevedo won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:02.33.<\/p>\n Courtney Harnish, Megan Kingsley<\/strong> and Kylie Stewart<\/strong> each won twice for the Lady Bulldogs. Harnish won the 200 freestyle as she touched in 1:47.71 and the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:46.36. Stewart won the 100 backstroke in 52.48 and the 200 backstroke in 1:56.20. Kingsley swept the butterfly races, winning the 100 in 53.89 and the 200 in 1:57.31.<\/p>\n Stephanie Peters<\/strong> won the 1,000 freestyle in 9:53.25 and Meaghan Raab<\/strong> won the 400 individual medley in 4:17.12.<\/p>\n The 400 freestyle relay of Veronica Burchill,<\/strong> Stewart, Harnish and Raab placed first in 3:21.52.<\/p>\n Tennessee swept UNC Wilmington in the men’s and women’s competition Friday to open the regular season.<\/p>\n Led by double wins from junior diver Rachel Rubadue<\/strong>, sophomore Erika Brown<\/strong> and freshman Alexis Yager,<\/strong> the Tennessee women won 13 of 16 events in a 201-99 victory. The men won 11 of 16 events behind a 177-123 team effort in which no Vol won multiple events.<\/p>\n Yager’s won in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.04) and 200 individual medley (2:05.71). For the women, freshman Amanda Nunan<\/strong> won the 1,000 freestyle (10:19.20) and Tjasa Pintar<\/strong> took first in the 200 freestyle (1:52.47).<\/p>\n Tennessee got wins from Katie Armitage<\/strong> in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.68), Micah Bohon<\/strong> in the 200 backstroke (2:03.66) and Brianna Leverenz<\/strong> in the 500 freestyle (5:07.63).<\/p>\n In addition to diving victories from Liam Stone<\/strong> and Colin Zeng<\/strong>, The Tennessee men got wins from Sam Rice<\/strong> in the 1,000 freestyle (9:27.87), Taylor Abbott<\/strong> in the 200 freestyle (1:40.68), Braga Verhage<\/strong> in the 50 freestyle (20.94), Sam McHugh<\/strong> in the 200 backstroke (1:52.32), Jared Clance<\/strong> in the 200 breaststroke (2:05.88), Hayden Burns<\/strong> in the 500 freestyle (4:36.33) and Ryan Coetzee<\/strong> in the 100 butterfly (50.15).<\/p>\n Kentucky women’s swimming and diving team kicked off the season Wednesday afternoon, taking a 187-72 victory over Vanderbilt.<\/p>\n Of the 16 swimming events, the Wildcats took first in all but one, including seven 1-2-3 sweeps.<\/p>\n Senior Morgan Belli<\/strong> led the way for the Cats, sweeping the breaststroke events. Belli went 1:04.02 to lead UK in a sweep of the 100-yard breaststroke, before posting a 2:17.05 to win the 200 breast.<\/p>\n Sophomore Asia Seidt<\/strong> was another standout performer of the meet, picking up a pair of victories on the day. Swimming off events, Seidt took the titles in both the 50- and 200-yard freestyle events. The sophomore went 1:49.01 to win the 200 and 23.12 in the 50.
