BELO HORIZONTE, Brazil, August 30. A total of six finales took place during the first day of finals at the Jose Finkel Trophy in Brazil this morning, while a pair of 50 free semifinals occurred, setting up some interesting battles during the finale.<\/p>\n

Fabiola Molina claimed the women's 200 back title in 2:14.08, while Fernanda Alvarenga placed second in 2:15.48. Rebeca Bretanha wound up third overall in 2:19.05. Thiago Pereira followed up with a 2:00.15 to capture the men's 200 back crown. Fernando Pires touched second in 2:01.24, while Leonardo Santos snared third in 2:02.25. <\/p>\n

Michele Schmidt snared the women's 200 breast crown in 2:37.34, while Renata Sander finished second in 2:39.24. Juliana Marin completed the top three in 2:39.55. Henrique Barbosa touched out Thiago Parravicini, 2:15.12 to 2:15.38, in the men's 200 breast. Felipe Lima earned third in 2:16.29. <\/p>\n

Cecilia Biagioli topped the women's 800 free in 8:47.14, while Joanna Maranhao took second in 8:49.51. Poliana Okimoto rounded out the podium with an 8:50.11. Juan Pereyra picked up the men's 1500 free title in 15:25.45. Lucas Kanieski placed second in 15:36.88, while Caio Serebranik finished third in 15:56.96. <\/p>\n

In semifinal action, Inge Dekker led the women's 50 free with a 25.42, while Flavia Delaroli qualified second in 25.44. Nicholas Dos Santos posted his second 22.62 in as many tries in the men's 50 free, after leading prelims as well. Cesar Cielo qualified second in the splash-and-dash with a 22.73.
