Wanted: Founding Members of the PSA<\/h2>\n

Picture this: fivve swim meets in beautiful destinations comprising a Paci c Rim Tour. Each meet would take place three to four weeks apart, allowing swimmers to train in between stops. Each stop would o er prize money that could potentially exceed the elite professional swimmer\u2019s annual salary (unless you\u2019re, say, Michael Phelps).<\/p>\n

The Professional Swimmers Association (PSA), charted to kick off in 2018, is being spearheaded by the executive director of the American Swimming Coaches Associa\u00adtion, John Leonard<\/strong>, and the president of the World Swimming Coaches Association, George Block<\/strong>. Block predicts it will not be fully formed until the end of that year…after athletes have used the tour as an opportunity, not only to race, but to convene and decipher what they want from an athlete-led organization.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a coach\u2019s role to protect and care for\u00a0athletes,\u201d Block said. \u201cWe feel it\u2019s our role to get this started, but at a certain point, it\u2019s un- ethical to be involved because we\u2019re not the athletes.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
