PHOENIX, Arizona, August 23. ELIZABETH Pelton has moved from Baltimore to Naples, Florida, to train with Paul Yetter in the months leading up to the Olympics. <\/p>\n
In an exclusive interview with Swimming World earlier today, Yetter said that Pelton had her first workout in Naples just yesterday. Yetter and Pelton worked together from 2006 to 2009, when Pelton was becoming an internationally-known swimmer. Under Yetter, Pelton made the 2009 world championship team and made the world final in the 200 backstroke. Bob Bowman had been training Pelton since Yetter moved to Auburn and then took over T2 Aquatics in Naples last year. Yetter has another swimmer there who will be getting some international experience. Erika Erndl will swim at the Pan American Games this October, her first national team trip … and she’s doing it at 33 years old.<\/p>\n
The World University Games is wrapping up in Shenzhen, China, and the gold medal matches of the men’s and women’s water polo tournaments were held yesterday. Most of the same players that competed for China at the world championships played yesterday for gold, in an effort to improve on the silver medal they won against Greece at worlds. This time, the Chinese had no problem winning gold with a 14-4 trouncing of the United States. Leah Robertson and Nadia Dan each scored two goals for the USA. Serbia also avenged its silver medal finish at world championships with a World University Games gold medal, winning the men’s final 11-8 over Russia. The United States men’s team placed fourth, losing the bronze medal match to Macedonia 10-7.<\/p>\n
