LIMA, Peru, August 20. IN the penultimate night of action at the FINA World Junior Championships, several more meet records took a fall with Ukraine claiming a pair of gold medals.<\/p>\n
Slovenia's Tjasa Oder smashed the meet record in the women's 1500 free with a 16:18.63. That performance wiped out the 16:28.77 set by Elena Sokolova back in 2008, and moved Oder to 17th in the world rankings. USA's Rachel Zilinskas placed a closed second in 16:18.85 to take 20th in the world. Spain's Claudia Dasca wound up third in 16:24.30. <\/p>\n
Ukraine's Daryna Zevina downed the meet record in the women's 50 back once again, this time with a winning 28.45 to move to 23rd in the rankings. That clocking bettered her semifinal meet record of 28.60. Great Britain's Emma Saunders took second in 28.76, while Canada's Chantal Van Landeghem finished third in 29.01. <\/p>\n
Ukraine's Maksym Shemberev cruised to victory in the men's 400 IM in 4:15.64, crushing the meet record along the way. That swim wiped out the 4:19.86 set by Kosuke Hagino in prelims. Shemberev jumped up to 21st in the world rankings with the swim. China's Li Xiang took second in 4:17.00, while Hagino rounded out the top three in 4:17.15. USA's Josh Prenot (4:18.44) and Great Britain's Matt Johnson (4:18.54) also cleared the previous record.<\/p>\n
USA's Kristen Vredeveld (55.64), Simone Manuel (55.90), Rachel Acker (56.48) and Lia Neal (54.83) captured the women's 400 free relay title in 3:42.85, taking down the meet record of 3:43.54 set by the U.S. in 2008. Canada's Brittany MacLean (55.65), Victoria Chan (57.27), Lauren Earp (55.63) and Chantal Van Landeghem (54.69) finished second in 3:43.24. Great Britain's Amelia Maughan (57.03), Emma Saunders (55.99), Emily Jones (57.70) and Jessica Lloyd (55.27) took third in 3:45.99<\/p>\n
USA's Maclin Davis claimed the men's 50 fly title in 24.26, after leading semis with a 24.12. Croatia's Mihael Vukic placed second in 24.30, while Italy's Martino Lucatello picked up third in 24.54. <\/p>\n
In semifinal action, Australia's Cameron McEvoy turned in a 50.08 to lead the men's 100 free. Italy's Giacomo Ferri qualified second in 50.61, while Russia'd Dmitry Ermakov touched third in 50.63. <\/p>\n
Great Britain's Rachel Kelly paced the women's 100 fly semis with a 59.62. Germany's Alexandra Wenk (59.73) and Japan's Rino Hosoda (59.75) earned the second and third seeds.<\/p>\n
Australia's Bronte Campbell lowered her meet record in the women's 50 free with a 25.28 in semis. That broke her prelim meet mark of 25.37. USA's Lia Neal cruised into the second seed in 25.39, while Canada's Chantal Van Landeghem wound up third in 25.58. <\/p>\n
