Markl is from Scottsdale, Arizona where she is a senior at Notre Dame Prep High School. She swims for Scottsdale Aquatic Club.\u00a0Scottsdale teammates\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/arizona-high-school-champion-shae-nicolaisen-gives-verbal-commitment-to-duke\/\" target=\"_blank\">Shae Nicolaisen<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/claire-grover-noah-henry-lizzy-spears-brady-estrada-expand-arizona-state-class-of-2022\/\" target=\"_blank\">Claire Grover<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/hawaii-snags-distance-ace-mckenzee-gordon-of-scottsdale\/\" target=\"_blank\">McKenzee Gordon<\/a><\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/columbia-earns-verbal-commit-from-az-state-champ-madison-leblanc\/\" target=\"_blank\">Madison Leblanc<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>have also given verbal commitments to college programs.<\/p>\n<p>Markl will join a Nevada program also set to include freestyler\/backstroker\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/futures-champion-lindsey-soule-verbally-commits-to-university-of-nevada\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Lindsey Soule<\/strong><\/a>. Markl is also best in backstroke and freestyle. Her top times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 Back 2:01.41<\/li>\n<li>100 Back 56.65<\/li>\n<li>50 Back 27.08<\/li>\n<li>200 Free 1:53.60<\/li>\n<li>100 Free 52.18<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At last year&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ryan-hoffer-just-shy-of-50-free-national-public-school-record-at-az-d2-champs\/\" target=\"_blank\">Arizona Division 2 High school state championships<\/a>\u00a0Markl swam the backstroke leg of\u00a0her team&#8217;s sixth place 200 medley relay. She also led off the ninth place 400 freestyle relay. Individually Markl was fifth in the 100 free in a lifetime best time, 52.18. In another best of 56.65 she earned bronze in the 100 backstroke.<\/p>\n<p>Markl\u00a0wrote,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I chose the Univeristy of Nevada for the great swim team, coaches, and academics. I knew when I visited the campus that this was the perfect place for me to spend my college swimming career.
