IN her continuing quest to participate in the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, Janet Evans lowered her own Masters world record in the 400 freestyle last weekend at the Southern Pacific Masters Association&#39;s long course championships in Mission Viejo, Calif.<\/p>\n<p>Evans, who is 40 years old per FINA Masters rules, swam a 4:22.87 in the 400 free to set a new standard in the 40-44 age group, faster than the 4:23.82 she swam at a Masters meet in June. The time is the fastest swum in Masters competition, and brings Evans closer to the Olympic Trials qualifying time of 4:19.39.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Evans also swam the 800 free, posting a 9:02.23. In June, Evans swam an 8:59.06.<\/p>\n<p>Four relay world records were also set at the meet:<\/p>\n<p>Men&#39;s 240-279 400 free relay: 4:13.50, Ventura County Masters (former record 4:27.83)<\/p>\n<p>Men&#39;s 240-279 800 free relay: 9:25.78, Ventura County Masters (former record 9:35.14)<\/p>\n<p>Mixed 120-159 800 free relay: 8:47.80, Novaquatics Masters (former record 8:57.53)<\/p>\n<p>Mixed 280-319 800 free relay: 12:51.15, San Diego Masters (former record 12:52.57)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MISSION VIEJO, California, August 18.
