It will begin\u00a0the day after the 2019 World Aquatics Championships being held in\u00a0Gwangju, South Korea.<\/p>\n<p>The fluidity of the two meets became even more noticeable with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ipc-postpones-world-para-swimming-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\">postponement of the 2017 Championships<\/a> after the earthquakes in Mexico, its original host city.<\/p>\n<p>Many athletes that were expected to participate have now shifted their focus to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/toronto-to-host-para-swimming-canadian-open-after-postponement-of-world-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto&#8217;s Canadian Open<\/a>, a meet designed to keep the structure of these swimmers&#8217; seasons in tact.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur primary goal is to provide a quality racing opportunity that will allow the swimmers to stay on their preparation plans and post performances for world rankings and for team allocations for the 2018 Commonwealth Games,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>James Hood<\/strong>, Swimming Canada\u2019s Senior Manager, High Performance Para-swimming Programs.<\/p>\n<p>Teams are still announcing their commitments to this meet, while no official date for the 2017 World Championships has been released.<\/p>\n<h3><a href=\"https:\/\/www.paralympic.org\/news\/malaysia-host-2019-world-para-swimming-championships\" target=\"_blank\">Full announcement from World Para Swimming:<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>World\u00a0Para Swimming\u00a0announced that Kuching, Malaysia will host the 2019 World\u00a0Para Swimming\u00a0Championships from 29 July \u2013 4 August.<\/p>\n<p>Around 600 swimmers from 70 countries are expected to compete in the capital of Sarawak state marking the 9th edition of the World\u00a0Para Swimming\u00a0Championships and the first time the competition will be held in Asia.<\/p>\n<p>Elected the new International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President in the 2017 IPC General Assembly held last week in Abu Dhabi, UAE,\u00a0<strong>Andrew Parsons<\/strong>\u00a0said: \u201cWe are pleased to announce that Malaysia is going to host the first edition of the World\u00a0Para Swimming\u00a0Championships in Asia. The coming years are going to be an exciting time for Para sport in the continent and Kuching will see the world\u2019s best Para swimmers competing one year before the\u00a0Paralympic Games\u00a0in Tokyo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to thank the Paralympic Council of Malaysia and the Sarawak State Government for their support and we look forward to working with them to organise an amazing event in Kuching in two years\u2019 time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The president of the Paralympic Council of Malaysia (NPC Malaysia) <strong>Mr. SM Nasarudin Tan Sri Datuk Seri Utama SM Nasimuddin<\/strong>, said: \u201cWe would like to thank the IPC for the decision to award this Championships to Malaysia. This decision demonstrates the willingness of the IPC to develop NPCs worldwide by giving an opportunity to cultivate the organisational capabilities to host major international events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have earned international reputation in hosting major sporting events in this country and the National Paralympic Council values this opportunity and shall endeavour to deliver the Championships to the best of our ability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth &amp; Sports of Sarawak, Honourable <strong>Datuk Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah<\/strong>, said: \u201cKuching is delighted to be entrusted with the opportunity to host such a prestigious international championship. The Sarawak State Government has taken many initiatives to host major sporting tournaments regularly. We have the infrastructure and resources as well as organisational capabilities to deliver a world class Para sport championship.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe plan to deliver the Championships beyond the expectation of all participating countries. We strongly believe that people visiting this exciting tropical paradise in this part of the world shall be enchanted with the natural wilderness that we have to offer. See you all in Kuching 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Valetta in Malta hosted the first World\u00a0Para Swimming\u00a0Championships back in 1994.
