Max Ritter award. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/adolph-kiefer-1936-olympic-gold-medalist-passes-away-at-age-98\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kiefer passed away in May<\/a> at the age of 98 after a legendary life in swimming.<\/p>\n<p>Kiefer was the first man to ever break 1:00 in the 100-yard backstroke and won gold in the 100-meter back at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.
