THE Netherlands&#39; Ranomi Kromowidjojo topped the women&#39;s 50 free semis at the FINA World Long Course Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Kromowidjojo clocked a time of 24.56 for the top seed, and will be looking to become just the second woman from her country to win the world title in the splash-and-dash. Inge De Bruijn topped the podium in both 2001 and 2003. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;It was a good race,&quot; Kromowidjojo said. &quot;The Netherlands won the gold in the women&#39;s 50 fly tonight, and that gave me confidence heading into my race.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Denmark&#39;s Jeanette Ottesen, the co-titlist in the women&#39;s 100 free this year, will be looking to join the likes of Britta Steffen, Libby Trickett and De Bruijn among others as swimmers to win both the 50 and 100 free events. Ottesen clocked a 24.61 for the second seed tonight.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden&#39;s Therese Alshammar, fresh off her upset loss in the 50 fly, qualified third in 24.63, while Belarus&#39; Aliaksandra Herasimenia, the other 100 free co-titlist, will be looking for the same honors at Ottesen after qualifying fourth in 24.69.<\/p>\n<p>Great Britain&#39;s Fran Halsall (24.80), The Netherlands&#39; Marleen Veldhuis (24.88), USA&#39;s Jessica Hardy (25.00) and Bahamas&#39; Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace (25.05) garnered the final transfer spots into the championship eight.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For full Swimming World coverage of the entire 2011 FINA World Championships, including all videos and recaps, visit our Event Landing Page.
