PHOENIX, July 30. AT the suggestion of coach Steve Selthoffer, Swimming World<\/i> has proposed a solution to the controversy over the Seiko touchpads at the 9th FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.<\/p>\n
The proposal was made in an e-mail from Dr. Phillip Whitten, Editor-in-Chief of Swimming World<\/i> to Cornel Marculescu, Executive Director of FINA.<\/p>\n
Whitten asked FINA "to ship all of the lane touchpads, timing system terminal, and backup system to Germany, where they would be tested by an independent testing laboratory to verify the overall pressure consistency of the pads and the accuracy of the entire timing system.<\/p>\n
"It would be a simple, transparent, verifiable way to defuse the controversy surrounding the accuracy of the Seiko system and to do justice to all of the athletes who competed in Fukuoka," he said.<\/p>\n
"Swimming World<\/i> and swiminfo.com<\/b> would be willing to publish the test results independently," Whitten said.<\/p>\n
