Sorensen is a freestyler and backstroker for Marietta, Georgia&#8217;s Stingrays.<\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s a senior at Pope High School where she is a team captain. Sorensen is the team&#8217;s record holder in the 50 and 100 freestyle as well as the 100 backstroke. She&#8217;s also been instrumental in relay success and is a member of the team&#8217;s 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay records.\u00a0Sorensen won the 100 backstroke at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/georgia-high-school-state-championships-finals-recap\/\" target=\"_blank\">2017 Georgia 6&amp;7A high school state championships<\/a> after earning the top spot\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/michael-taylor-breaks-two-records-at-prelims-of-georgia-high-school-state-championships\/\" target=\"_blank\">in prelims<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American&#8217;s\u00a0top times are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 Back 2:00.34<\/li>\n<li>100 Back 55.88<\/li>\n<li>50 Back 26.60<\/li>\n<li>200 Free 1:53.82<\/li>\n<li>100 Free 50.63<\/li>\n<li>50 Free 23.41<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Sorensen told\u00a0<em>Swimming World<\/em>,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Very excited to announce that I have committed to swim at the United States Naval Academy! I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve my country and join such an amazing team! \u00a0GO NAVY BEAT ARMY!!&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>She&#8217;ll be a big point scorer for the defending Patriot League Champions. At last year&#8217;s conference meet Sorensen would have been fourth in the 100 backstroke, just out touching Navy&#8217;s highest finisher, sophomore\u00a0<strong>Ally Warnitmont<\/strong>. She would have also been seventh in the 200 backstroke. Warnimont was second (1:59.29) in that event. Sorensen also adds a B final swim in the 50 freestyle to her potential conference line up.
