{"id":276482,"date":"2017-09-05T07:55:47","date_gmt":"2017-09-05T14:55:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=276482"},"modified":"2017-09-05T07:55:47","modified_gmt":"2017-09-05T14:55:47","slug":"police-issue-warrant-for-brazilian-olympic-committee-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/police-issue-warrant-for-brazilian-olympic-committee-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Issue Warrant for Brazilian Olympic Committee President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Police in Brazil have issued warrants for the arrest of Brazilian Olympic Committee President <strong>Carlos Nuzman<\/strong> and his associate, <strong>Arthur Cesar de Menezes Soares Filho<\/strong>, on charges that they were involved in a bribery scandal surrounding the awarding of the 2016 Olympic Games, according to an\u00a0<em>Associated Press\u00a0<\/em>report.<\/p>\n<p>Althought Nuzman&#8217;s lawyer,\u00a0<strong>Sergio<\/strong> <strong>Mazzillo<\/strong>, has insisted that his client &#8220;did not commit any irregularity&#8221; and that Nuzman would cooperate, Nuzman was not at home when police searched his house.<\/p>\n<p>Eyewitness reports saw Nuzman and Mazzillo leaving the home before police arrived, and police removed &#8220;suitcases, documents and a computer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nuzman, a former International Olympic Committee member, was one of 11 people in either Brazil or France for whom warrants were issued in relation to the awarding of the 2016 Olympics.
