PHOENIX, Arizona, July 12. ALEXANDER Dale Oen broke into the rare club of men under the one-minute barrier this year in the 100 breaststroke yesterday with a 59.98 at the Norweigan nationals, becoming just the third man to do so. As you can see from the video here provided by the Norweigan Swimming Federation, Dale Oen looked strong throughout and has put himself in medal contention at the upcoming world championships. Dale Oen is the reigning Olympic silver medalist in the 100 breast.<\/p>\n
Yesterday Swimming World learned that legendary Masters swimmer Laura Val set 10 Masters world records over the course of three days at the Pacific Masters championships. First off, she broke five world records in the 60-64 age group while swimming the 1500 freestyle, with world record splits in the 100, 200, 400 and 800, as well as a fantastic final time in the 1500, breaking that record by more than a minute. She also set records in all three butterfly distances, the 50 free and 400 IM. After just seven months in the 60-64 age group, Val owns all the freestyle world records, both short course and long course, in that age group. Ann Hirsch broke three world records of her own in the 80-84 age group, in the 200 IM, 100 breast and 200 breast. And the Alameda Aquatics Masters broke a relay world record in the men's 400 medley relay for the 320-339 age group.
