Day six of the World University Games in Taipei will feature three\u00a0preliminary events for women and one for the men, plus the men’s 800 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n

Top seeded athletes include Ukraine’s Mariia Liver<\/strong> in the 50 breast, teammate Andrii Govorov<\/strong> in the 50 free, Switzerland’s Martina Eva Van Berkel<\/strong> in the 200 fly and Great Britain’s Anna Hopkin<\/strong> in the 50 free.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 50 Breaststroke<\/h2>\n

    USA’s Andrea Cottrell<\/strong> stole the top seed in the 50 breast with a 31.01 prelim swim. Teammate Miranda Tucker<\/strong> also qualified for the semifinals in the eighth position with a 31.94. Australia’s Leiston Pickett<\/strong> finished second overall in 31.31 and was followed by Liver in 31.44.<\/p>\n

    Poland’s Dominika Sztandera<\/strong> took the fourth spot in 31.49 and was followed by a pair of Swedish women in Jessica Eriksson<\/strong> (31.65) and Vilma Ekstroem<\/strong> (31.75). Germany’s Jessica Steiger was seventh in 31.89 while Canada’s Bailey Andison<\/strong> rounded out the qualifiers in 32.51.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 50 Freestyle<\/h2>\n

    Italy’s Lorenzo Zazzeri<\/strong> took down some big names in the 50 free prelims, taking the top seed in 22.13. 100 freestyle champion Ryan Held<\/strong> of the USA was second in 22.16 followed by Sleksei Brianskii<\/strong> of Russia in 22.19. Both men have teammates who qualified for the semifinals as well.<\/p>\n

    USA’s Dillon Virva<\/strong> was sixth in 22.36 while Russia’s Sergei Fesikov<\/strong> qualified tenth in 22.40, a position he tied Japan’s Katsumi Nakamura<\/strong> for.<\/p>\n

    Brazil’s Italo Manzine Amaral Duarte Garof<\/strong> was fourth in 22.27, while Finland’s Ari Liukkonen<\/strong> (22.28), Poland’s Konrad Czerniak<\/strong> (22.37) and Ukraine’s Andrii Govorov (22.38) rounded out the top eight. The final spot in the semifinals went to Taipei’s Chun Feng Wu<\/strong> in 22.64.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 200 Butterfly<\/h2>\n

    USA’s Ella Eastin<\/strong> followed suit of\u00a0teammate Cottrell to take the top seed in the 200 fly with a dominating 2:10.20. Switerland’s Martina van Berkel<\/strong> was her closest competitor in 2:11.62. Eastin was the only swimmer able to maintain a 33 split on the third fifty, and only crept to 34.01 on the final lap.<\/p>\n

    Turkey’s Nida Ustundag<\/strong> was third in 2:11.86 out of the same heat as Berkel. Laura Taylor won the third heat in 2:13.40 for the fourth seed overall, tying with Katie McLaughlin<\/strong> of the USA. Poland’s Klaudia Nazieblo<\/strong> (2:13.47), Great Britain’s Isobel Grant<\/strong> (2:13.58) and Canada’s Sarah Darcel<\/strong> (2:13.60) rounded out the top eight while Czech Republic’s Barbora Zavadova<\/strong> (2:15.27) took the sixteenth spot.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 50 Freestyle<\/h2>\n

    Mariia Kameneva<\/strong> of Russia was the only swimmer in the field to break 25 seconds, coming in at 24.99 for the top seed. Americans Katrina Konopka<\/strong> and Caroline Baldwin<\/strong> took the next two spots in 25.17 and 25.36, respectively.<\/p>\n

    Brazil also placed a pair of women into the semifinals, as Alessandra Harrison Marchioro<\/strong> (25.38) took fourth and Graciele Herrmann<\/strong> (25.67) was eleventh. Japan’s Kaho Okano<\/strong> (25.41) and Chihiro Igarashi<\/strong> (25.64) were fifth and ninth.<\/p>\n

    Italy’s Lucrezia Raco<\/strong> (25.42), Great Britain’s Anna Hopkin<\/strong> (25.52) and South Africa’s Emma Chelius<\/strong> (25.61) placed sixth through eighth. Korea’s Seojin Hwang<\/strong> was sixteenth in 26.10.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 800 Freestyle Relay<\/h2>\n

    The Japanese quartet of Reo Sakata<\/strong>, Shuhei Suyama<\/strong>, Katsuhiro Matsumoto<\/strong> and Daiya Seto<\/strong> earned the top seed in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:16.90. Italy’s Fabio Lombini<\/strong>, Alex Di Giorgio<\/strong>, Alessio Proietti Colonna<\/strong> and Filippo Megli<\/strong> did their job, earning the second seed in 7:19.09.<\/p>\n

    USA’s Mitch D’Arrigo<\/strong> posted the fastest split in the field at 1:48.17, anchoring the American men to the third seed in 7:19.25. Russia (7:19.29), France (7:22.19), Canada (7:23.29), Taipei (7:24.82) and Poland (7:25.34) also qualified for the final.<\/p>\n
