HALMSTAD, Sweden, June 30. THE first two days of swimming at the Swedish Long Course Nationals produced a handful of meet records in Halmstad.<\/p>\n
Sarah Sjostrom topped the meet record in the women's 100 free with a 54.43 for the win. That swim eclipsed the 54.64 set by Josefin Lillhage in 2009, and just missed Sjostrom's 16th-ranked season best of 54.41 from April. Gabriella Fagundez took second in 55.01, while Ida Marko-Varga placed third in 55.17. <\/p>\n
Kristian Kron downed a meet record in the men's 200 back. Kron posted a 2:01.63 to touch out second-place Mattias Carlsson (2:01.67), as both beat the former record of 2:02.19 set by Simon Sjodin in 2009. Martin Nilsson took third in 2:06.35. <\/p>\n
A third meet record fell in the women's 200 back with a 2:13.32 from Henriette Stenkvist. She bettered the 2:14.39 set by Therese Svendsen in 2009. Svendsen placed second this year in 2:13.77, while Ida Lindborg wound up third in 2:16.50. <\/p>\n
Martina Granstrom downed the fourth meet record of the first night with a 2:09.26 in the women's 200 fly. That swim beat her former mark of 2:09.75 set in 2009, but fell short of her 13th-ranked season best of 2:08.03 from the Canet stop of the Mare Nostrum earlier this month. Marko-Varga took second in 2:12.73, while Ida Sandin placed third in 2:15.04. <\/p>\n
The fifth meet record of the competition tumbled in the women's 50 breast with a scorching 30.98 from Jennie Johansson. That swim beat the 31.03 set by Rebecca Ejdervik during prelims, and just missed Johansson's national record of 30.95 set in Canet earlier this month. That time ranks her seventh in the world this year. Ejdervik settled for second in 31.32, while Sofia Johansson posted a third-place 32.30. <\/p>\n
Johan Johansson touched out James Dorchester and Niklas Tour, 1:03.63 to 1:03.75 and 1:03.88, in the men's 100 breast. Fagundez claimed the women's 800 free in 8:55.85, while Rebecka Ekelund finished second in 9:01.05. Annika Jonsson snared third in 9:03.97. <\/p>\n
Robin Andreasson topped the men's 200 free in 1:50.58, while Paul Gordon earned second in 1:52.28. Oscar Ekstrom placed third in 1:52.85. Fagundez earned her second title in as many days with a 4:14.33 in the women's 400 free. Stenkvist touched a close second in 4:14.36, while Ekelund earned third in 4:24.62. <\/p>\n
Niklas Borin edged Mans Hjelm, 26.80 to 26.83, in the men's 50 back. Sebastian Holmberg finished third in 26.89. Jesper Birch hit the wall in 2:04.06 for the men's 200 fly crown. Viktor Bjork touched second in 2:04.41, while Carlsson finished third in 2:05.65. <\/p>\n
