LONDON, England, June 27. ACCORDING to various media reports, the International Olympic Committee has moved social media aspects into the same realm as athlete blogs for the 2012 London Games.<\/p>\n
Similar to when the IOC authorized athlete blogs from the 2008 Beijing Games, but under strict rules, the IOC has issued its authorization for Olympic athletes to participate in social media such as Twitter and Facebook.<\/p>\n
The authorization comes with several rules regarding specific content allowed. First, no x-rated content is allowed, and doing so could result in immediate expulsion from the Games. Additionally, athletes taking part in blogs and social media may only participate in "first-person, diary-type formats." Simply put, athletes must not act as journalists while at the Olympics to compete. <\/p>\n
Video has had an upgrade in what is allowed in London. In Beijing, no video was allowed by athletes. In London, only videos taken outside of venues is allowed as video and audio from inside a venue is still banned.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
