SHEFFIELD, England, June 17. THE final day of the British long course nationals featured more world-ranked performances.<\/p>\n
Before today's finals, Jemma Lowe was ranked sixth in the world in the women's 200 butterfly with a 2:06.94. She won the event today with a 2:05.36 to bump her up to third behind the Chinese duo of Liu Zige (2:04.40) and Jiao Liuyang (2:04.44). Notably, the time isn't too far off Ellen Gandy's national record of 2:04.83 from 2009. Elena Sheridan was well back in second with a 2:11.07, while Tilly Gray took third in 2:13.19.<\/p>\n
Kristopher Gilchrist won the men's 200 breaststroke with a 2:10.16, moving him up to fifth in the world. Though the meet is serving as a second-chance competition for swimmers to be added to the world championships roster for Great Britain, Gilchrist is not likely to swim the event in Shanghai, as Michael Jamieson and Andrew Willis were already selected from the world championship trials meet in March \u2013 despite the fact that Jamieson and Willis swam slightly slower. Placing second in the race today was Richard Webb in 2:13.54, while Laurent Carol was third in 2:14.68.<\/p>\n
Simon Burnett opened the session with a 49.09 to win the 100 freestyle. Grant Turner took second in 49.32, while Robbie Renwick, the 200 and 400 champion from earlier in the week, placed third in 49.53.<\/p>\n
Rebecca Adlington, the world leader in the 400 free with a 4:02.84 from March, won the event today in 4:08.32. Well back in second was Eleanor Faulkner with a 4:10.89, while Hayley Towner was third with a 4:14.11.<\/p>\n
Xavier Mohammed won the men's 200 IM in 2:01.09, while Lewis Smith took second in 2:02.42. In third was Adam Harrington with a 2:02.73.<\/p>\n
Anne Bochmann and Lucy Spencer battled wire-to-wire in the women's 400 IM final, with Bochmann taking the win in 4:47.00. Spencer was second in 4:47.63, with Emma Smithurst placing third in 4:50.26. Notably, Hannah Miley, currently third in the world with a 4:35.89 from earlier this month, swam a 4:41.57 in prelims and scratched finals.<\/p>\n
Richard Charlesworth posted the winning time in the men's 1500 freestyle with a 15:30.75. Martin Cremin placed second with a 15:40.67 and Alfie Howes was third in 15:43.46.<\/p>\n
