OLYMPIC legend Janet Evans, the four-time gold medalist and three-time Games participant, announced today in an interview with The Associated Press that she has been training for eight months with the goal of making her fourth Olympic team.<\/p>\n<p>The first official test for Evans will come this weekend at the Janet Evans Invitational Masters meet in Fullerton, Calif. According to the Associated Press article, Evans will swim the 400- and 800-meter freestyles &#8212; events in which she held the world record &#8212; as well as the 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke. This will be Evans&#39; first competition since the 1996 Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Rumors about Evans&#39; comeback began to surface last November, and Swimming World first <a href=http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/25511.asp>confirmed the rumors<\/a> shortly after.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press article also confirmed that Evans is being coached by Mark Schubert, who was formerly the USA Swimming national team head coach and had coached Evans in the later years of her swimming career.<\/p>\n<p>The article also states that Evans could swim at the USA Swimming nationals in August, the month in which she will turn 40.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/hosted.ap.org\/dynamic\/stories\/S\/SWM_EVANS_COMEBACK?SITE=FLDAY&#038;SECTION=HOME&#038;TEMPLATE=DEFAULT>Full text of The Associated Press article<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, June 10.
