BERLIN, Germany, May 31. THE German World Championships Selection Meet began today with a national record falling by the wayside. <\/p>\n
Yannick Lebherz won the men's 400 IM with a German record time of 4:14.02. That swim eclipsed his previous record of 4:14.63 from 2009, and tied him for eighth in the world this year. Morten Ahme took second in 4:22.18, while Luka Husing finished third in 4:25.32.<\/p>\n
Christian Kubusch captured the men's 1500 free in 15:09.94, improving to 14th in the world rankings. Martin Grodzki took second in 15:14.68. Jan Wolfgarten placed third in 15:18.72. <\/p>\n
In prelims, Theresa Michalak led qualifying in the women's 200 IM with a 2:15.92, while Isabelle Harle paced the women's 400 free in 4:13.07. <\/p>\n
Johannes Neumann (1:02.02) and Christian Vom Lehn (1:02.09) qualified first and second in the men's 100 breast with Hendrik Feldwehr (1:02.28) and Marco Koch (1:02.49) taking third and fourth. Meanwhile, Sarah Poewe (1:08.61) and Caroline Ruhnau (1:08.84) cleared 1:09 in prelims in the women's 100 breast. <\/p>\n
Steffen Deibler ripped off a 22.26 in the men's 50 free prelims to take 15th in the world rankings, while Marco Di Carli touched second in 22.49. Britta Steffen hit the wall in 24.98 in the women's 50 free to take 12th in the world rankings out of prelims. Dorothea Brandt qualified second in 25.03, while Daniela Schreiber placed third in 25.56.<\/p>\n
