CARSON CITY, Nevada, May 27. THE Nevada High School State Championships took place Saturday, May 21 at Carson Aquatic Facility (swimming) and Carson Valley Swim Center (diving).<\/p>\n
Girls Results
\nBishop Gorman teammates Amy Lubawy and Olivia Barker both took two individual wins and swam on at least one winning relay. Lubawy won the 50 (24.22) and 100 free (52.55) while Barker hit the wall first in the 200 IM (2:05.20) and 100 fly. She clocked a time of 55.09 in the 100 fly to break her own state record of 55.26 set in 2010. The two teamed up to swim on Bishop Gorman’s winning 400 free relay (3:37.06) consisting of Barker, Catie Miller, and Lindsey Englestead. Meghan Boland, Englestead, Barker, and Miller won the 200 medley relay in 1:49.70.<\/p>\n
Coronado’s Sammy Harrison also doubled, scoring wins in the 200 (1:51.82) and 500 free (4:28.25) and brought her team to victory in the 200 free relay. Nicole Merdel, Katie Obell, Melissa Fillmore, and Harrison swam to a top time of 1:42.16. Palo Verde’s Alexis Mayhall took first in the 100 back (56.64), while Silverado’s Mallory Harris won the 100 breast (1:03.13). Green Valley’s Crysta Imahara placed first in one meter diving with 374.65 points.<\/p>\n
Bishop Gorman scored 89 points overall to win the meet, while Boulder City edged Coronado for second by just one point, 62 to 61.<\/p>\n

\nGreen Valley’s Robert Hommell lit up the competition with more than just two individual wins. Hommell took the 200 free in 1:37.52 to break the state record of 1:37.77 set by Kurt Kady in 2002. He also won the 500 free (4:38.01) and set a state record of 45.22 in the 100 free while leading off Green Valley’s runner-up 400 free relay. That time beat the 45.54 Gianni Sesto established last year. Finally, Hommell led off the 200 free relay in 21.28, the fastest 50 free time of the day.<\/p>\n
Spring Valley’s JR Deem and Boulder City’s Andrew Peterson both recorded double wins as well. Deem won the 50 free (21.46) and 100 breast (56.73), and Peterson took home both the 200 IM (1:52.30) and 100 free (46.33). Deem’s Spring Valley teammate Brett Beck won the 100 back (53.74), and Coronado’s Jacob Luna won the 100 fly (49.58). Palo Verde’s Dalton Rios took the title in one meter diving with 365.40 points.<\/p>\n
Boulder City took home wins in both free relays, while Spring Valley grabbed the 200 medley relay title. Beck, Deem, Dylan Wolf, and Nicholas Cabalo clocked 1:38.41 for Spring Valley’s win. Cody Molisee, Jeff Grasso, Gunner Braden, and Peterson took the 200 free relay win in 1:27.13, and Joey Gebhart joined Molisee, Braden, and Peterson in clocking 3:11.21 for another Boulder City title in the 400 free relay.<\/p>\n
Not surprisingly, Boulder City cruised to the team title with 106 points, crushing Spring Valley’s second-place total of 74 points. Coronado scored 69.5 points to place third.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
