2016 Canadian Olympian Taylor Ruck announced on Thursday night via Instagram that she was verbally committing to Stanford for the fall of 2018. Ruck is joining a super team at Stanford that won the 2017 NCAA title for the first time since 1998. Stanford also is picking up a huge freshman class for the fall with current or former junior team members Brooke Forde<\/strong><\/a>, Katie Glavinovich<\/strong>, Hannah Kukurugya<\/strong>, Ashley Volpenhein<\/strong><\/a> and Lauren Pitzer<\/strong> joining the farm in the fall of 2017.<\/p>\n

Ruck is one of the top recruits in the class of 2018 as she has already medaled at the Olympic Games with two bronze medals in the free relays for Team Canada. Ruck also received a bronze medal in the 200 free at the 2016 World Short Course Championships in Windsor. She was also the World Junior Champion in the 100 and 200 free at the 2015 World Juniors in Singapore.<\/p>\n

Ruck boasts best times of 53.92 and 1:57.87 in the 100 and 200 free LCM as well as a 4:09.93 400 free. Ruck has also proved to be a solid backstroker as she won the bronze medal in the 200 back at the 2015 World Juniors. Ruck’s best backstroke times are 1:00.46 and 2:07.62. She set her 200 back best time at the Canadian Junior Championships a few weeks ago. Her 200 back time would have snuck into the final at the recent World Championships in Budapest.<\/p>\n

Ruck joins an already stacked 2018 recruiting class that includes Zoe Bartel<\/a><\/strong>, Amalie Fackenthal<\/strong><\/a>, Anya Goeders<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and Allie Raab<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ruck will be joining a Stanford team that will have national champion Ella Eastin<\/strong> in her senior year and world record holder Katie Ledecky<\/strong> in her junior campaign. Stanford may be going for its third straight NCAA title in the 2018-2019 season and they will not be looking back with the addition of Ruck.<\/p>\n

Ruck announced earlier in the summer<\/a>\u00a0that she was moving out of Arizona and will spend her senior year training with Penny Oleksiak<\/strong> in Toronto. She will be swimming at the World Junior Championships in Indianapolis for Canada at the end of the month to compete against future teammates Bartel and Fackenthal.<\/p>\n
