She will go head to head with Sweden&#8217;s <strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> in the first event of the finals in the 100 IM. Sjostrom will be chasing her World Record in the 50 free later in the session.<\/p>\n<p>Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> was just off her World Record with a 56.99 in the heats as she missed her record of 56.67. Hosszu leads Sweden&#8217;s <strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> (57.92) and Finland&#8217;s <strong>Jenna Laukkanen<\/strong> (59.43). This will be a well anticipated final between two of the biggest names in women&#8217;s swimming.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tom Shields<\/strong> of the United States posted a strong 1:50.60 in the heats of the 200 fly have the top seed going into the final. Shields was ahead of the Japanese duo of <strong>Masayuki Umemoto<\/strong> (1:53.90) and <strong>Masaki Kaneko<\/strong> (1:54.23).<\/p>\n<p>Hosszu returned later to the session to swim a 2:00.18 200 back top seed as she was just off her 1:59.23 World Record from 2014. She had a large margin over second place <strong>Nadine Laemmler<\/strong> (2:06.35) and third place <strong>Jenny Mensing<\/strong> (2:07.05) from Germany. World Champion from Budapest <strong>Emily Seebohm<\/strong> of Australia is sixth at 2:10.08.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ilya Shymanovich<\/strong> of Belarus has the number one prelim time of the 50 breast with a 26.16 on Monday morning. He leads a tight field ahead of Russia&#8217;s <strong>Kirill Prigoda<\/strong> (26.26) and Italy&#8217;s <strong>Fabio Scozzoli<\/strong> (26.36).<\/p>\n<p>Sjostrom returned for her second swim of the morning with a 23.22 in the 50 free, just off her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-sjostrom-takes-down-50-free-short-course-world-record-in-moscow\/\">23.10 World Record<\/a> from last week&#8217;s World Cup in Moscow. Sjostrom is ahead of the Netherlands&#8217; <strong>Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> (23.99) and Australia&#8217;s <strong>Cate Campbell<\/strong> (24.21) in Monday&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<p>Lithuania&#8217;s <strong>Danas Rapsys<\/strong>\u00a0had the fastest morning time in the 200 free with a 1:42.28 ahead of Hungary&#8217;s <strong>Dominik Kozma<\/strong> (1:43.03) and Poland&#8217;s <strong>Kacper Majchrzak<\/strong> (1:43.04). Notably absent from the heats was South African <strong>Chad Le Clos<\/strong> who was not on the entry list.<\/p>\n<p>Hosszu returned for her third event of the day with a 55.52 100 fly to lead the Netherlands&#8217; <strong>Ranomi Kromowidjojo<\/strong> (56.63). Italy&#8217;s <strong>Ilaria Bianchi<\/strong> (57.36) is the third seed.<\/p>\n<p>Poland&#8217;s <strong>Radoslaw Kawecki<\/strong> is the top seed for the 100 back with a 50.89 ahead of Norway&#8217;s <strong>Markus Lie<\/strong> (51.13) and Russia&#8217;s <strong>Grigory Tarasevich<\/strong> (51.20). Australia&#8217;s <strong>Mitch Larkin<\/strong> is also in the field at eighth with a 51.54 in the heats.<\/p>\n<p>Spain&#8217;s <strong>Mireia Belmonte<\/strong> had a strong morning swim in the 400 free with a 4:02.58. She is head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the competitors as Chile&#8217;s <strong>Kristel Kobrich<\/strong> (4:05.46) and the Netherlands&#8217; <strong>Femke Heemskerk<\/strong> (4:05.79) sit in second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Finland&#8217;s Laukkanen (1:04.87) had the fastest 100 breast of the morning just ahead of Jamaica&#8217;s <strong>Alia Atkinson<\/strong> (1:05.71) and Denmark&#8217;s <strong>Rikke Pedersen<\/strong> (1:06.01).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Katinka Hosszu swam three events on Monday morning at the FINA World Cup in Berlin and she is the top seed in every single one of them.
