As usual, Aroesty&#8217;s breaststroke leg was particularly noteworthy; she surged ahead against her competitors in that leg with a 37.35.<\/p>\n<p>The next top finisher was Longhorn Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Nora McCullagh<\/strong>, who dropped 2.27 seconds from her entry time for her 2:15.66. McCullagh&#8217;s strength, when facing Aroesty in the evening, will be the backstroke leg, which she took out in 34.43 in the prelims. Lochte was out fast (56.68) but held onto his lead in the breaststroke leg. The second seed for the A-final belongs to Longhorn Aquatiics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Sam Stewart<\/strong>, who dropped just over a second for his 2:01.88.<\/p>\n<p>Lochte and Stewart were followed by a duo of 2:02s,\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>of the Race Pace Club in 2:02.35 and\u00a0<strong>Xavier Mohammed\u00a0<\/strong>of Swim Wales\u00a0in 2:02.45. The fifth seed for the final is\u00a0Michigan Lakshore Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Kyle Maas\u00a0<\/strong>in 203.19.<\/p>\n<p>Hudson Explorers Aquatic Team&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ross Palazzo\u00a0<\/strong>wowed in an early heat with his 2:03.29, while Ridgefield Aquatic Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kieran Smith\u00a0<\/strong>finished just one tent behind in 2:03.39. Kennedy, the third-place finisher in the 50 freestyle at the 2016 Olympic Trials, punched her ticket to the finals with a fast-closing 25.42. Not far behind, fellow world-class swimmer\u00a0<strong>Marie Wattel\u00a0<\/strong>of France swam a 25.55.<\/p>\n<p>The young blood of the A-final will be\u00a0<strong>Gretchen Walsh\u00a0<\/strong>of Nashville Aquatic Club, who dropped a tenth of a second from her seed time to post a 25.73. Two hundredths behind,\u00a0<strong>Amanda Kendall<\/strong>, swimming unattached, and <strong>Margo Geer<\/strong>, of Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics, tied for the\u00a0fourth position in the A-final in 25.77.<\/p>\n<p>Texas A &amp; M&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kristin Malone\u00a0<\/strong>nabbed the sixth spot in 25.80, while\u00a0<strong>Rebecca Millard\u00a0<\/strong>of Longhorn Aquatics was one hundredth of a second behind Malone in 25.81. The veteran of the A-final will be\u00a0<strong>Cullen Jones<\/strong>, 33, representing Wolfpack Elite, who added 0.42 to his entry time but nonetheless blazed to the second top spot with a 22.17.<\/p>\n<p>Nearly half a second behind, Longhorn Aquatics&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Tate Jackson\u00a0<\/strong>leads the rest of the pack into the finals. Jackson dropped a 22.66 in the prelims, closely followed by Alabama&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Howard\u00a0<\/strong>(22.67), North Texas Nadadores&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Brett Ringgold\u00a0<\/strong>(22.69), and the Race Pace Club&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>(22.70), following up on his strong 200 IM.<\/p>\n<p>Swimming unattached,\u00a0<strong>Kyle Robrock\u00a0<\/strong>locked up the seventh seed with 22.77.
