{"id":270849,"date":"2017-08-03T21:23:30","date_gmt":"2017-08-04T04:23:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=270849"},"modified":"2017-08-04T21:28:06","modified_gmt":"2017-08-05T04:28:06","slug":"distance-events-highlight-night-1-of-2017-santa-clara-futures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/distance-events-highlight-night-1-of-2017-santa-clara-futures\/","title":{"rendered":"Distance Events Highlight Night 1 of 2017 Santa Clara Futures"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Bryan Gu, Swimming World Intern.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The first night of Santa Clara Futures proved to be a simple one as only the distance events &#8211; the men&#8217;s 1500 freestyle and the women&#8217;s 800 freestyle &#8211; were contested individually.<\/p>\n<p>In the Women&#8217;s 800 Freestyle <strong>Lindsey Soule<\/strong> of CAT-OR took first with a time of 8:57.55, dropping over 13 seconds from her seed time of 9:10.70. This marks Soule&#8217;s first time under nine minutes. Also joining Soule under the nine minute mark was Lavona Harper of RMDA-CA who dropped five seconds from her personal bet to take second in 8:59.96. <strong>Kalie Novosedliak<\/strong> of NCA-SI took third, barely missing the mark, as she finished in 9:00.38.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Scott Pekarske<\/strong> and <strong>Daniel Blake<\/strong> were similarly the only two to go under the 16 minute as they finished in times 15:54.03 and 15:55.11 respectively. <strong>Noah Vial<\/strong> took third in 16:01.56, dropping a massive 32 and a half seconds from his seed time.<\/p>\n<p>North Coast Aquatics won the Women&#8217;s 800 freestyle relay, while Tualatin Hills Swim Club took it for the men.<\/p>\n<p><em>Full results can be found on Meet Mobile \u2013 2017 USA Swimming Futures Santa
