{"id":270818,"date":"2017-08-03T17:24:51","date_gmt":"2017-08-04T00:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=270818"},"modified":"2017-08-03T19:23:04","modified_gmt":"2017-08-04T02:23:04","slug":"first-night-of-lewisville-futures-promises-an-exciting-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/first-night-of-lewisville-futures-promises-an-exciting-championship\/","title":{"rendered":"First Night of Lewisville Futures Promises an Exciting Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Joe Buchanan, Swimming World College Intern.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The first day of the USA Swimming Futures Championships in Lewisville closed with four different teams taking first across the four events.\u00a0Races were decided by milliseconds as the championship featuring the next great swimmers of the Midwest kicked off.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/liberty-howell-follows-in-sisters-footsteps-with-verbal-to-missouri-state\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Liberty Howell <\/strong><\/a>of SwimTulsa started the Championships by taking first in the Women\u2019s 800 meter freestyle with a time of 8:59.79. In an extremely close race, <strong>Sara McClendon<\/strong> of Mansfield Aquatics Club took second with a time of 8:59.82. Following her was <strong>Carson Kaufmann<\/strong> of Cypress Fairbanks Swim Club with a time of 9:03.31.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s 1500 meter free was dominated by <strong>Adam Grimm<\/strong> of Rec Plex Sharks Swim Team with his time of 16:08.28. <strong>Matthew Hedman<\/strong> of Edina Swim Club finished in second with 16:17.95, followed by <strong>Jack Little<\/strong> of the Jets Aquatic Club in 16:22.21<\/p>\n<p>The Alamo Area Aquatic Association placed in both the women\u2019s and men\u2019s 800 meter free relay. Their women\u2019s team, consisting of <strong>Evelyn Bruner<\/strong>, <strong>Alvena Walpole<\/strong>, <strong>Rachel Rodriguez<\/strong>, and <strong>Alicia Hale<\/strong> took first with a time of 8:35.11, beating out Lakeside Aquatic Club&#8217;s team of <strong>Anika Buhr<\/strong>, <strong>Megan Hanson<\/strong>,<strong> Megan Morris<\/strong>, and <strong>Jenna Watson<\/strong>\u00a0with an 8:36.09. Coming in a close third was <strong>Jordyn Wentzel<\/strong>,<strong> Madison Potter<\/strong>,<strong> Jordan McGinty<\/strong>, and <strong>Taylor Williams<\/strong> of the Aquajets Swim Team with a time of 8:36.33.<\/p>\n<p>The men\u2019s 800 meter free relay was led by Chicago Wolfpack Aquatic Club\u2019s ensemble of <strong>Ezra Mizgala<\/strong>, <strong>Reilly Shields<\/strong>, <strong>Eamonn Keenan<\/strong>, and <strong>Jacob Furlong<\/strong> with a finishing time of 7:45.99. Close behind was Springfield YMCA Swim Team\u2019s <strong>Spencer Hohm<\/strong>, <strong>Stuart Hohm<\/strong>, <strong>Gage Hamill<\/strong>, and <strong>Matthew Knox<\/strong> with a time of 7:47.43.
